Job description

  1. PURPOSE OF ROLE:

The role involves performing corrective and preventive maintenance, conducting inspections, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining both process and building equipment according to diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturers' specifications. Effective communication skills in English are required.

Preferred candidates should be motivated, positive, energetic, and flexible regarding their work schedules, whether day or night. They must possess a comprehensive knowledge of process equipment, including control systems and valves, as well as experience in mechanical repairs on main equipment, minor building-related repairs, and troubleshooting techniques. This knowledge should be acquired through a combination of experience and on-the-job training.

  1. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Ensure the operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing corrective and preventive maintenance tasks on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, light electrical systems, and production machines. This involves following diagrams, sketches, schematics, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications, as well as troubleshooting malfunctions when necessary.
  • Utilize a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) or maintenance software as directed by the Maintenance Manager, and prepare mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing relevant information and trends.
  • Identify the sources of mechanical issues by observing devices in operation, listening for unusual sounds, and using precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Fabricate and weld using stainless steel, carbon steel, and aluminum. It is essential to know how to use a multimeter.
  • Repair parts using machine shop techniques and fabrication equipment. Change oil, replace filters, and perform preventive maintenance tasks as required.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by following procedures, rules, and regulations. Commit to the Operation Clean Sweep (OCS) Blue program and adhere to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety standards.
  • Perform any other maintenance-related tasks as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or Manager.

 

 

  1. KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and comprehending English.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in related positions within an industrial environment, with a solid understanding of the methods, principles, and practices for operating, maintaining, and repairing associated machinery, as well as mechanical knowledge.
  • Unique ability to contribute to a high-performance, team-based work culture.
  • Basic math skills are advantageous.
  • Good knowledge of and proficiency with basic maintenance hand tools.
  • Familiarity with mechanical maintenance, fabrication, welding, and repair techniques.
  • Must be available to lead or assist with any mechanical issues throughout the plant.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the maintenance area.
  • Willingness to work overtime or on rotating shifts as required.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation and electrical maintenance is essential.
  • Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Lean Manufacturing principles.
  1. Equipment Supported
  • Packaging and bagging lines, including form-fill-seal equipment where applicable.
  • Conveyors, transfers, sorters, diverters, palletizers, stretch wrappers, labeling equipment, scales, scanners, and cameras.
  • Electric motors, gearboxes, bearings, drives, VFDs, sensors, relays, contactors, control circuits, and basic PLC/HMI-controlled equipment.
  • Pneumatic and hydraulic components, air compressors, valves, cylinders, pumps, and associated components.
  • Dock doors, dock levelers, overhead doors, lifting equipment, and other warehouse or facility-support systems.

  1. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 
  • Frequently lift up to 55 lbs. and adjust body position to bend, stoop, stand, walk, turn, pivot, and stand for long periods of time. (Will be required to use ladders or stairs).
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Requires close visual observation to detect non-conformance and machine malfunction.
  • Must be able to use regular maintenance-related tools and work at heights.

Work Environment: Full-time in an operational environment and some office environment.  May need to work outside in inclement weather conditions and drive the company vehicle to perform duties. 

Possible Work Hazards:  May be exposed to operation hazards including dust, fumes, toxic and caustic chemicals, rotating machinery, high pressure, hot or cold work temperatures, slippery surfaces, water and electrical hazards.
