Job description

Building on the 169-year legacy of The Atlantic, and centered on lively, consequential discussion of contemporary issues, The Atlantic's events team brings the unparalleled journalism of The Atlantic to life through singular event experiences, virtually and in person. Our event portfolio includes multi-day flagship events, topical summits on a range of issues from education to criminal justice, custom programs, and on-the-record roundtable discussions with leading thinkers and changemakers.

We're looking for an Event Manager to help deliver this work at a high level. This is a role for someone who thrives in fast-moving environments and wants to work at the intersection of media, ideas, and experience. You'll collaborate closely with editorial leadership and senior stakeholders, and play a key role in shaping how The Atlantic shows up in the world.

This role reports to the Associate Director, Events and will require occasional early mornings, evening, and weekend work in addition to some travel.

What you'll do

  • Lead planning and execution of events across The Atlantic events portfolio, from intimate roundtables to large-scale flagship programs

  • Own end-to-end project management, including timelines, logistics, and cross-functional coordination

  • Partner closely with editorial, design, marketing, audience, and sales teams to bring events from concept to execution

  • Manage vendors and production partners across venues, AV, catering, and technical production

  • Support tentpole, multi-day, multi-sponsor events, including on-site execution and client management

  • Translate sponsor goals into thoughtful, well-integrated event experiences while maintaining The Atlantic's editorial standards

  • Lead client communications, including planning timelines, program updates, and delivery of contracted elements

  • Oversee virtual and hybrid production in partnership with the production vendors

  • Develop run-of-show documents, staffing plans, and on-site execution strategies

  • Partner with audience teams to meet and exceed attendance goals

  • Support budget tracking and forecasting, identifying risks and opportunities

  • Deliver post-event recaps that clearly demonstrate impact and value

What you bring

  • 5+ years of experience producing events or comparable live experiences

  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple complex workstreams simultaneously

  • Experience working cross-functionally in a fast-paced, high-performance environment

  • Excellent communication skills and confidence working with senior stakeholders

  • High attention to detail paired with strong judgment and problem-solving instincts

  • Experience with both in-person and virtual event production

  • A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset and strong sense of ownership

  • Interest in journalism, media, or mission-driven work

Salary Minimum: $77,000; Salary Maximum: $90,000

This position is based in Washington, D.C.

This is a Guild position.
