Mount Sinai Health System is seeking an accomplished Physician or exceptional PhD Researcher with a clinical partner to serve as System Chief for the Division of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Medicine. This leadership role involves advancing clinical and translational research, particularly through NIH grants, and overseeing administrative, clinical, research, and educational aspects of the Division. The System Chief will report to the System Chair of the Department of Medicine and manage approximately 85 full- and part-time faculty and 22 voluntary physicians across the health system.

• Oversight of approximately 85 full- and part-time faculty and 22 voluntary physicians across the Mount Sinai Health System
• The Division of Infectious Diseases offers services from general and transplant infectious diseases to lifelong treatment for persons with HIV
• Faculty provides consultation on both inpatient and outpatient service areas, offering expert guidance on diagnosis and management of bacterial, fungal, mycobacterial, parasitic, and viral infections, as well as preventive services
• Provides care to persons with HIV at the Institute for Advanced Medicine (IAM), which has four clinical sites with subspecialty practices for underserved or specialized needs populations
• Collaborates with Mount Sinai's Department of Genetics and Genomics to utilize genomics for understanding hospital infections
• Collaborates with the Department of Microbiology on new diagnostics and therapeutic interventions, such as antibody therapies and vaccines

Responsibilities

• Overall management of the System Division of Infectious Diseases across the Mount Sinai Health System, including on-campus and off-campus ambulatory sites
• Develop academically oriented training programs, grow in-hospital and ambulatory clinical programs, and expand basic, clinical, and translational research programs
• Maintain a financially viable program and enhance the clinical and scientific status of the Division of Infectious Diseases
• Oversee all teaching aspects of the Division regarding medical students, postdoctoral trainees, and continuing medical education, including bedside training, didactic sessions, and conference preparation
• Develop and maintain fellowship training programs that comply with ABIM and Residency Review Committee requirements
• Grow the NIH-funded research program, including leadership in program project or Center Grant applications, competing for NIH training grants, and developing K (mentored) awardees
• Foster the career development of junior faculty members by mentoring and example
• Oversee the quality of care on the inpatient service, outpatient medical clinics, and faculty practice, including physician coverage, teaching, and organizational aspects of the Division's clinic
• Develop strategic plans for the Division of Infectious Diseases aligned with departmental and institutional goals

Compensation

• Compensation range from $350,000 to $500,000 (not including bonuses / incentive compensation or benefits)
• The salary range listed is for full-time employment and does not include bonuses / incentive compensation or benefits

Requirements

• MD or MD/PhD, or highly qualified PhD
• New York medical license or eligibility
• Board certified or eligible in Infectious Diseases
• Demonstrated leadership experience in academic medicine, clinical practice, or professional societies
• National recognition in clinical, translational, and/or basic research
• Requisite experience and leadership qualities to develop a vision for sustaining and growing all facets of the division's missions and fostering a collaborative and collegial work environment
• High character, leading by example and in a consistent manner
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively and congenially within a diverse academic and clinical environment
• Preferred: History of extramural research funding and publications in high impact journals
• Preferred: Demonstrated commitment to quality and safety in healthcare
