COMPANY:
Full-service utility construction company established in 1999 specializing in turnkey power substation construction. Seeking experienced relay construction inspection professional for full-time, permanent hire in North Carolina. Per diem and full benefits, 401K, PTO, sick time and holidays, company vehicle and year-round job stability.
 
POSITIONS:
Relay Construction Engineer (RCI II)
  • Four-year degree AND three or more years of relevant experience 
  • Eight+ years of relevant experience AND more than 3 years of leadership/compliance management experience
 JOB DESCRIPTION:
  • Responsible for ensuring Contract Compliance is provided for Contractors performing Relay & Controls services on the client’s system
  • Will ensure work is completed safely and to design specifications
  • The scope of work will vary from simple upgrades and maintenance on existing substations to the construction of new substations
  • Responsible for identifying and assisting in the resolution of issues that could compromise the success of a project (e.g. design issues, material issues, Contractor performance issues, access issues, customer issues, etc.)
JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Training

SCOPE OF WORK COMPLIANCE, WORK PLAN, PROGRESS AND SCHEDULE
  • Perform and document EH&S (Environmental Health & Safety) safety audits 
  • Ensure pre-job briefings or observations are being effectively used
  • Monitor crew productivity
  • Validate units/T&E (Time & Equipment) completed for invoicing
  • Report all Human Performance, safety and environmental incidents immediately to local representative for client
  • Perform and document QA inspections during construction 
  • Support project documentation and ensure as-built drawings are completed and submitted
  • Provide feedback on personnel performance
  • Provide status reports as needed
  • Ensure coordination of outages with customer, Contractor, local operating personnel and System Controlling Authority
  • Facilitate/Attend pre-construction meetings with the Contractor prior to move-in (as needed) to discuss and develop job plan and sequence
  • Ensure compliance with prints, work orders and construction practices
  • Verify the proper use of all Human Performance tools such as: HP tool kit, functional guidelines, barricading, PIC signs, good housekeeping, etc.
  • Participate in Pre-Job and Post-Job briefings 
  • Interface with other departments to resolve all issues (ex. temporary power, switching manpower, etc.)
  • Ensure that all NERC test documents, red-lines, SOI, etc. are submitted to the relay construction engineer following energization
  • Attend final walk through and check off
