Job description

Complex Insurance Coverage Attorney

Insurance Coverage Attorney - Orange County

This Orange County litigation boutique handles the caliber of insurance coverage work you'd expect at a large firm - complex policy analysis, high-stakes coverage litigation, direct client responsibility - inside a collaborative culture that actually invests in your career.

With a salary range of $165,000-$210,000 and a genuine mentorship structure, this role is built for a mid-level coverage attorney ready to do meaningful work without the large-firm grind.

What you'll do

- Analyze and interpret primary, excess, and specialty-lines insurance policies and prepare comprehensive written coverage opinions for insurer clients
- Manage insurance coverage litigation from initial pleadings and motion practice through trial preparation and, where required, trial
- Represent insurer clients in California state and federal courts, arbitration, and mediation
- Draft persuasive briefs, motions, and memoranda on complex coverage and liability issues
- Provide strategic legal guidance directly to clients, serving as a trusted day-to-day contact on active matters
- Collaborate with firm leadership on litigation strategy and contribute to practice development initiatives
- Mentor junior attorneys and participate in structured business development coaching

What you need

- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Active membership in good standing with the California State Bar
- 4-8 years of experience in insurance coverage law, coverage litigation, or insurance defense
- Demonstrated ability to draft sophisticated legal documents (opinions, briefs, motions) with clarity and precision
- Proven capacity to manage multiple complex matters simultaneously with strong client-service instincts

Nice to have

- Experience with commercial general liability (CGL), professional liability, or property coverage lines
- Existing relationships with insurer clients or familiarity with carrier-side coverage analysis
- Trial experience or significant arbitration/mediation involvement
- Superior academic credentials or law review/moot court background

 Pay & benefits

- Base salary: $165,000-$210,000 depending on experience
- Performance-based bonus opportunities

Location & schedule

- Office: Newport Beach, CA
- Employment type: Full-time
- Schedule: Hybrid
- California Bar admission required and in good standing; must be authorized to practice in California state and federal courts

About & how to apply

This is a respected and growing Orange County firm with a longstanding litigation pedigree and an expanding insurance coverage practice. Attorneys here get direct client contact, real responsibility, and a culture where leadership is accessible and invested in long-term growth - not just billable hours.
