Job description

Our client is an innovative aerospace company focused on advancing space technology and enabling a more connected planet. The organization develops launch vehicle systems and spacecraft propulsion technologies designed to support next-generation satellite missions.
The Opportunity
Our client is seeking a Senior Harness Engineer to join the Avionics team and lead the design and development of wiring harness systems for a launch vehicle platform. This role owns the harness architecture across development, testing, and production for both test and flight systems.
The engineer will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop and integrate advanced harness systems supporting the vehicle from early design through system integration and flight readiness.
Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the Harness Responsible Engineer for a launch vehicle program
  • Own harness architecture and system-level wiring design
  • Work cross-functionally with Mechanical, Thermal, and Electrical teams to define harness requirements
  • Select connectors, materials, and components for aerospace environments
  • Design harness routing, mechanical layout, and EMI mitigation strategies
  • Create and maintain system-level wiring diagrams and electrical schematics
  • Draft and review manufacturing and assembly drawings
  • Support first article assembly, production, and flight harness development
  • Perform electrical testing including pin-to-pin isolation, grounding, and continuity checks
  • Troubleshoot development and production issues and implement corrective actions
  • Support system integration in a hands-on design, production, and testing environment
Compensation
Salary range: $131,750 - $162,350

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field
  • 5+ years of professional experience in harness design
  • 3+ years of experience with mechanical design / CAD tools and PLM software
  • Ability to interpret and create complex electrical wiring diagrams
  • Strong understanding of wire harness design and manufacturing processes
  • Experience with component material selection for aerospace applications
  • Hands-on experience testing and troubleshooting complex wiring systems
  • Ability to perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions
  • Experience documenting and maintaining:
    • Testing procedures
    • Test and analysis results
    • FMEAs
    • Requirement documentation
    • Work instructions
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards such as:
    • IPC/WHMA-A-620
    • NASA-STD-8739.4 and 8739.6
    • NASA-STD-6016
    • SAE AS22759
    • J-STD-001
  • Ability to design hardware with weight, cost, and manufacturability considerations
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Ability to collaborate across engineering teams and manage hardware interfaces
  • Self-motivated with the ability to execute open-ended engineering problems
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working on aerospace or spaceflight systems
  • Knowledge of redundancy strategies for flight-critical systems
  • Experience designing for high-vibration and vacuum environments
  • Experience with Siemens NX and Teamcenter
  • Experience with RapidHarness
