Job description

Role: Tax Manager - combination of overall support for the HubSpot Tax team, with a key focus on indirect tax transformation. The role will focus heavily on indirect tax process optimisation, advising through adopting the latest indirect tax technologies and will be a key member of business GTM initiatives.

The Indirect Tax and Technology Manager role is an exciting and challenging role in a fast-paced tax department. We are looking for an individual with a passion for tax technology, data and compliance. You will drive indirect tax process optimisation, indirect tax tech selection & strategy and be a key partner to various internal and external stakeholders. This new role will report into the Senior Manager of Tax Compliance and Operations.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the optimization of indirect tax data management, analytics, and reporting tools.
  • Lead the selection, implementation, enhancement, and maintenance of indirect tax technology solutions supporting compliance, reporting, determination, and operational scalability.
  • Establish and maintain indirect tax data governance standards, ensuring data quality, integrity, and consistency across systems and reporting processes.
  • Act as a bridge between Indirect Tax, Engineering, Finance Systems, GTM, and external consultants, ensuring effective technology adoption and scalable process design.
  • Serve as a key indirect tax stakeholder for new GTM motions, product launches, billing changes, and strategic business initiatives by assessing indirect tax implications and defining required system and process changes.
  • Partner with Finance Systems, Engineering, and Enterprise Architecture teams to ensure indirect tax requirements are incorporated into ERP, billing, procurement, and quote-to-cash workflows.
  • Review and document key indirect tax processes, identify automation opportunities, and define scalable technology solutions to improve operational efficiency.
  • Monitor global indirect tax regulatory developments including e-invoicing, CTC, SAF-T, and digital reporting requirements, ensuring systems and processes remain compliant and scalable.
  • Ensure proper configuration, governance, and ongoing optimization of indirect tax determination engines and related reporting systems.
  • Ensure proper configuration and maintenance of e-invoicing, digital reporting, and indirect tax data exchange solutions.
  • Streamline and automate indirect tax return preparation, reconciliation, validation, and submission processes.
  • Develop scalable controls and monitoring processes to proactively identify indirect tax risks, data anomalies, and compliance gaps.
  • Evaluate and leverage AI-enabled tax technologies and intelligent automation opportunities to improve scalability, accuracy, and operational efficiency.
  • Partner with stakeholders to optimize indirect tax workflows, minimizing indirect tax team manual effort and mitigating compliance risks
  • Provide training and guidance to internal teams on indirect tax technology tools and automation best practices.
  • Stay informed on emerging indirect tax technology trends, regulatory developments, and innovation opportunities.
  • Support indirect tax compliance, audit readiness, and controversy management through scalable technology, data, and process improvements.
  • Support with special tax projects as they arise.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 6+ years of experience in indirect tax technology, indirect tax operations, or a related role.
  • Professional certifications such as CPA, CTA, ACA or ACCA depending on location (required)
  • Strong understanding of global indirect tax regulations including VAT, GST, sales tax, e-invoicing, Continuous Transaction Controls (CTC), SAF-T, and digital tax reporting requirements.
  • Hands-on experience with tax engines (e.g., Vertex, Avalara, ONESOURCE) and ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite).
  • Strong analytical and technical skills including SQL, tax data analysis, and visualization tools such as Looker, Snowflake, Power BI, Tableau, or Alteryx.
  • Experience with workflow automation, intelligent process automation, AI-enabled tax technologies, or related operational efficiency initiatives.
  • Familiarity with APIs, middleware, systems integrations, and interconnected finance technology ecosystems.
  • Experience with tax data governance, transactional data quality, and process standardization initiatives.
  • Strong project management and stakeholder management skills with experience leading cross-functional global initiatives.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate tax and regulatory requirements into scalable technology solutions.

Pay & Benefits
The cash compensation below includes base salary, on-target commission for employees in eligible roles, and annual bonus targets under HubSpot's bonus plan for eligible roles. In addition to cash compensation, some roles are eligible to participate in HubSpot's equity plan to receive restricted stock units (RSUs). Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay.
