General Summary
Integral member of the Student Learning Resources Center Leadership Team responsible for advancing STEM learning, college readiness, and successful progression into college-level mathematics and science courses. Coordinates the training, scheduling, coaching, and evaluation of STEM tutors in collaboration with the Director of Instructional Support. Designs and scales targeted academic support for students who are not yet TSI complete in mathematics, reading, or writing, including co-requisite support, embedded tutoring, workshops, online resources, and referral pathways. Uses student participation and outcome data to identify barriers, evaluate interventions, and recommend continuous improvements. Serves as a liaison to the School of Liberal Arts and Education and other instructional and student-support units to align tutoring with course expectations and institutional student-success priorities.
Specific Position Duties
  • Lead daily STEM Center operations and supervise part-time tutors during assigned hours.
  • Recruit, onboard, schedule, coach, and evaluate tutors using consistent standards for professionalism, inclusive practice, and evidence-based tutoring.
  • Develop tutor training in mathematics and science pedagogy, metacognition, study strategies, growth mindset, and support for students enrolled in developmental and co-requisite coursework.
  • Develop study materials, workshops, and events to support academic success.
  • Partner with faculty to identify high-risk gateway courses and implement embedded tutoring, supplemental instruction, targeted review sessions, and just-in-time academic support.
  • Coordinate structured interventions for students who are not TSI complete, including individualized learning plans, diagnostic skill review, referrals, and progress follow-up.
  • Create accessible in-person and online STEM learning resources aligned with course outcomes.
  • Track utilization, student demographics, course success, TSI completion, and completion of college-level mathematics within two years; prepare recurring impact reports and use findings to improve services.
  • Establish early-alert and referral processes with advising, faculty, and student-support teams.
  • Conduct outreach to first-time, dual-credit, adult, and economically disadvantaged students who may benefit from STEM support. Facilitate workshops for students and faculty on quantitative reasoning, study skills, test preparation, and effective use of tutoring.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant learning technologies, tutoring platforms, and institutional data systems.
  • Proactively identify barriers and implement scalable solutions aligned with the LRC strategic plan.
  • Participate in college committees.
  • Drive college vehicle for any tutoring and outreach related events.
  • Other Duties Assigned.

  • Demonstrated experience of tutoring, teaching, or providing academic support in mathematics or another STEM discipline.
  • Knowledge of effective practices for supporting underprepared students, developmental education, co-requisite instruction, and college-readiness pathways.
  • Ability to analyze student participation and outcome data, identify barriers, and use findings to improve services.
  • Effective written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, train, and coach part-time employees or peer tutors.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, resolve problems, and meet deadlines.
  • Competency with Microsoft Office and relevant learning, scheduling, tutoring, and data-reporting technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to support students from varied ages, educational backgrounds, and social and cultural experiences, including dual-credit students.
