As a Structural Engineer, you will play a key role in the design, assessment, and delivery of critical wastewater infrastructure projects that support the communities we serve. Reporting to the Manager, Engineering Design Services, you will provide structural engineering expertise for linear assets throughout the project lifecycle, from planning and design through construction support. Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, you'll help develop innovative, compliant, and cost-effective solutions while ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.

We welcome applications from internal and external candidates. EPCOR employees are encouraged to apply using their '@epcor.com' email address to ensure proper consideration of internal seniority.

What you'd be responsible for

  • Lead and oversee the delivery of structural engineering services, ensuring high-quality, consistent, and timely results that support project commitments, operational needs, and long-term asset performance.
  • Act as the senior technical authority for structural engineering, providing leadership, mentoring, and technical direction to engineers, technologists, consultants, and contractors while supporting staff development and organizational capability.
  • Provide technical oversight and review of engineering designs, calculations, drawings, reports, and submissions prepared by internal teams, consultants, developers, and other third parties to ensure technical integrity, consistency, and compliance with EPCOR and APEGA requirements.
  • Review, authenticate, and approve engineering work in accordance with APEGA standards and maintain accountability for engineering decisions affecting EPCOR assets.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of engineering standards, specifications, guidelines, procedures, and quality assurance programs to promote technical excellence and asset reliability.
  • Develop and review structural designs, finite element models, engineering analyses, geotechnical assessments, and construction documentation, ensuring solutions are safe, cost-effective, constructible, and compliant with applicable codes and standards.
  • Evaluate and approve consultant submissions, technical reports, methodologies, materials, products, and emerging technologies, applying sound engineering judgment to support asset management and infrastructure performance objectives.
  • Represent EPCOR as a technical expert in discussions with developers, consultants, utilities, regulators, and infrastructure owners, providing advice on complex technical, operational, regulatory, financial, and reputational matters.
  • Provide technical expertise for crossing agreements, infrastructure protection initiatives, and risk-based engineering decisions that support the long-term reliability and resilience of EPCOR assets.
  • Lead the planning, prioritization, coordination, and delegation of structural engineering work to ensure resources are effectively utilized and aligned with strategic, operational, and project requirements.
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence, innovation, accountability, and knowledge sharing through coaching, mentoring, succession planning, and the transfer of specialized engineering expertise.
  • Provide engineering governance and stewardship for structural engineering practices, ensuring the consistent application of sound engineering principles, effective management of technical risk, and protection of EPCOR's infrastructure assets.

What's required to be successful

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Structural Engineering; a Master's degree in Structural or Geotechnical Engineering is considered an asset.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA.
  • 10+ years of progressive engineering experience, including complex structural and geotechnical design for municipal and drainage infrastructure such as pump stations, lift stations, outfalls, and related assets.
  • Strong knowledge of the Alberta Building Code, Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Code, applicable CSA standards (A23.3, S16, S6, O86), and municipal bylaws.
