Position Overview

As a Smash Truck Driver / Mobile Compaction Operator, you will operate a 26,000-pound commercial Smash Truck and provide scheduled compaction services at customer locations.

You will be responsible for safely operating the truck and hydraulic equipment, completing assigned routes, communicating with customers and management, documenting service activity through mobile applications, and helping ensure that the truck remains clean, safe, and properly maintained.

This is not a traditional delivery-driver position. You will operate specialized equipment at customer sites and serve as a professional representative of our company.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Safely operate a commercial Smash Truck throughout the San Jose–Salinas service area.
  • Operate hydraulic mobile compaction equipment at commercial and construction sites.
  • Complete scheduled customer stops accurately and efficiently.
  • Inspect dumpsters and surrounding areas before beginning service.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and applicable traffic and jobsite regulations.
  • Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Perform basic preventive maintenance.
  • Identify and report vehicle, hydraulic, tire, or equipment maintenance issues.
  • Keep the truck, cab, and equipment clean and organized.
  • Use a smartphone and company applications to receive routes, document services, take photographs, and submit customer information.
  • Communicate professionally with customers, dispatch, sales representatives, and management.
  • Assist with on-site demonstrations for prospective customers.
  • Help optimize routes and daily schedules to improve service efficiency.
  • Provide excellent customer service and help identify potential customer needs or service opportunities.
  • Participate in ongoing safety, equipment, and operations training.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass a background check and any required drug or alcohol screening.
  • Experience safely operating commercial vehicles or heavy equipment.
  • Experience with Class 6 vehicles such as dump trucks, garbage trucks, buses, ambulances, fire trucks, tow trucks, or similar equipment is strongly preferred.
  • Class B or above Commercial Driver’s License is preferred but not required.
  • Experience operating or maintaining hydraulic equipment is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of preventive vehicle maintenance.
  • Comfortable using smartphones, navigation systems, mobile applications, and digital inspection forms.
  • Experience with fleet-management software such as Geotab is a plus.
  • Strong communication and customer-service skills.
  • Dependable, punctual, organized, and able to work independently.
  • Able to safely enter and exit the truck repeatedly and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Willing and able to travel throughout the San Jose, Morgan Hill, Gilroy, Watsonville, and Salinas areas. Our truck is located in San Jose.

The Ideal Candidate

You take pride in operating equipment safely and professionally. You are dependable, self-motivated, and comfortable managing your route without constant supervision.

You understand that efficiency is important, but safety and sound judgment always come first. You are friendly and professional with customers, attentive to the condition of your truck, and willing to communicate quickly when a problem arises.

You should also be interested in learning new equipment, improving your skills, and growing with the company.

Compensation and Benefits

  • $27 per hour
  • Full-time employment
  • New-business referral bonus opportunities
  • Technology allowance
  • Paid vacation
  • Paid holidays
  • Paid sick leave
  • Training on specialized Smash Truck equipment
  • Opportunities for advancement as the company grows

Schedule

This is a full-time position. Workdays generally begin in the morning, but start times and daily routes may vary based on customer needs, traffic, and service schedules.

Occasional early-morning work may be required.

Work Location

Drivers will serve customers throughout the San Jose–Salinas service area. Candidates should live within a reasonable commuting distance and be comfortable driving throughout the assigned territory.
