Job Responsibilities
Under the general supervision of the SCDOT Traffic Management Engineer, or his designees, serves as a member of a specialized technical work force of Traffic Incident Responders. Responds to traffic incidents and assists emergency responders by implementing required traffic control and, other associated tasks. Travels assigned routes assisting stranded motorists with minor vehicle services such as fuel, water, tire change, jump start, etc. Travels assigned routes assisting Emergency Response Agencies during incidents. Clears travel lanes of disabled vehicles and assist with emergency traffic control. Serves as the assistant shift supervisor and assumes the duties of the shift supervisor in their absence. Records Incident Response activities at Incident scenes and communicates this information, as needed, to the TMC dispatcher. Inputs all recorded data daily. Assist in cleaning and maintaining the Incident Response vehicles and facilities as directed. Serves at a mentor and lead trainer for all responders. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A high school diploma and two (2) years of related experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: Employee must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
The physical demands for the essential function involves manual dexterity, excellent vision, and may require lifting up to 60 lbs. May work outside of normal scheduled work week and during inclement weather. Work environment is generally in a truck and close proximity to heavy and fast moving traffic.
