Job description

Duties Description Perform structural engineering duties related to the preparation of structural steel or reinforced concrete designs for new construction of State facilities and rehabilitation/repair of State facilities. Prepare structural drawings and details, specifications, estimates, and/or studies for design projects. Coordinate design drawings and related specifications, construction costs estimates, etc., with the other technical disciplines

Actively manage the schedule of assigned projects according to workload, priorities, and design schedules. Review reports, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates prepared by design consultants. Actively oversee consultant design work for assigned projects.

Develop and maintain project documentation, including records of meetings, correspondence, and progress Review shop drawings, respond to contractor Requests for Information, create and/or review Information Bulletins, and provide similar construction administration and observation during the project's construction. Perform a full range of supervisory duties, including reviewing the work of subordinate staff. Operational Needs: Travel may be required (approximately 20%).

Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver's License issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicle is required Notes: There is no examination required for appointment to a NY HELPS position. Candidates hired via NY HELPS will be appointed on a permanent non-competitive basis and will begin a probationary period. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected that NY HELPS employees will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to take an exam.

Employees will then be afforded with all the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified. Salary Adjustments for Positions in Albany Geographic pay differential added to hiring salary = $7,000.

The Office of the General Services (OGS) supports telecommuting where it is reasonable to do so based upon the agency's mission and operational needs. Generally, employees new to OGS Design and Construction (D&C) will be restricted from telecommuting for at least 8 calendar weeks. After the initial 8 calendar week restriction, if an employee's duties and work performance are aligned with telecommuting they may be allowed to do so.

Upon approval to telecommute, OGS D&C employees may telecommute up to 4 days per pay period. This position is graded and offers a salary range from the hiring rate to the job rate for its designated grade. All hires begin at "Start Rate" unless prior state experience affords eligibility for hiring step increase as determined by OSC.

Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS) and applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications to be considered for this position: A New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration AND a qualifying bachelor's degree or higher as listed below; OR a New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration AND one year of full-time qualifying engineering experience as listed below

Qualifying degrees: Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Materials Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Engineering Science with a recognized concentration in any of the above listed engineering degrees. Qualifying experience: One year of full-time engineering experience in the analysis and design of steel framing, concrete framing, concrete foundations and seismic design. OR Current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service in a position allocated to a Grade 22 or above and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law

IF ANY OF THIS EXPERIENCE IS LESS THAN FULL TIME YOU MUST INDICATE THE AVERAGE NUMBER OF HOURS WORKED PER WEEK.
