Department Store Security Officer – Retail Theft Deterrence (Providence Area)

SecurityRI is hiring part-time and full-time Security Officers for retail and department store assignment in Providence and surrounding areas. This position is suited for professional, alert individuals who take pride in maintaining a strong visible presence, providing quality customer interaction, and assisting in theft deterrence efforts through active observation and reporting.

Active assignments involve customer-facing retail environments requiring professionalism, attentiveness, and consistent patrol activity throughout each shift.

Shifts Available:
  • Morning to late afternoon shifts
  • Shift times vary based on store location and operational needs
  • Full-time and part-time openings available. Shift assignment based on operational needs and candidate availability.

    Position Overview:

    Officers assigned to these retail locations are responsible for maintaining a visible and professional presence throughout the store while helping deter theft, monitor activity, and document incidents as needed. This is an observe and report position. Officers are expected to maintain professionalism with customers, staff, and management at all times while remaining alert to suspicious or disruptive activity.

    Every shift requires accurate reporting, patrol documentation, and professional communication. Officers must be comfortable utilizing smartphones and mobile reporting applications throughout the shift.

    Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain a visible security presence throughout the retail location
  • Conduct interior patrols and monitor assigned entrances/exits
  • Observe and report suspicious activity, theft concerns, or policy violations
  • Document incidents, disturbances, and unusual activity in detailed written reports
  • Monitor customer and employee activity while maintaining professionalism
  • Assist with deescalation of minor disturbances when appropriate
  • Communicate incidents and concerns to store management and SecurityRI supervision
  • Maintain professional appearance and conduct at all times on post
  • Follow all post orders, reporting procedures, and client directives
  • What We Are Looking For:

    Strong communication and observation skills are essential for this position. Officers must be dependable, professional, and capable of maintaining attentiveness throughout the entire shift. Candidates should be comfortable working in fast-paced retail environments and interacting with the public in a professional manner.

    Prior security, retail, customer service, or loss prevention experience is preferred but not required.
