Job Summary
The Academic & Simulation Lab Professional plans, coordinates, implements, and evaluates learning resources for students and faculty, inclusive of academic, clinical, laboratory and simulated learning environments.
Core Job Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with the President, Dean of Student & Faculty Development, and faculty to plan and administer a nursing education program, consistent with current standards and congruent with the mission, philosophy, goals, and objectives of the College.
  • Oversees execution of activities designed to encourage student retention and increase graduation rates.
  • Develops strategies to optimize student learning based on program requirements.
  • Identifies student learning needs and offers support strategies or resources to achieve individual academic success.
  • Analyzes assessment data in assisting learners to achieve their highest academic potential.
  • Promotes learners' understanding and use of effective study and test-taking skills.
  • Advises and recommends additional resources to ensure student success.
  • Facilitates learning by providing guidelines and supervision for peer group study.
  • Assists the Dean in the orientation and mentoring programs for new faculty.
  • Gives constructive feedback to faculty regarding teaching strategies used in the classroom and clinical settings which enhance the learning process.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities that increase one's effectiveness in the role.
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm for teaching/learning and nursing that inspires and motivates learners and faculty.
  • Coordinates BLS education for students and faculty.
  • Collaborates with Faculty of SECON & MVHS to develop, implement and evaluate simulation activities across the curriculum.
  • Oversees the Simulation Lab, technology and equipment for all programs.
  • Ensures the safe storage of hazardous material including medications.
  • Orients new students to the Simulation Lab equipment and technology. Ensures simulation lab policies and procedures are followed.
  • Ensures a safe environment in the Simulation Laboratory by keeping current with safety regulations, checks and maintains safety equipment and provides training and enforcement of safety procedures to individuals, including faculty, students and staff using the sim lab.
  • Performs related duties as directed.

Education/Experience Requirements
REQUIRED:
  • Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited college.
  • Four years of clinical nursing practice and a minimum of two year of teaching experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills; self-directed, Computer Technology Skills, Teaching skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to collaborative teamwork.

Licensure/Certification Requirements
REQUIRED:
  • Current licensure as a registered professional nurse in New York State.
  • BLS Certification
  • Instructor certification for BLS level within 6 months of hire.

PREFERRED:
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator
