Job description

Position: Associate Producer

Department: Artistic Status:

Full-Time Reports to: Producing Director

Pay Range: 65k-75K

Job Summary

The Associate Producer (AP) is a key member of the Producing Team within the Artistic Department, supporting the planning and execution of productions, events, and artistic programming across The Huntington’s campus. The AP is an organized, collaborative, and flexible professional who balances responsibility and support while working independently across multiple departments.

Duties & Responsibilities

· The AP serves as Line Producer for one mainstage production as well as development workshops, readings, residencies, community pop-ups, special events, and East Wing events/residencies and community activations.

· The AP stays informed about local and national theatre trends while building and maintaining strong relationships with the Boston theatre community and local educational institutions. Tracking productions/events at local theatres/universities and providing coverage reports.

· Keeping abreast of relevant local events/convenings/activities and enlisting Huntington participation/attendance as assigned

· The AP visits multiple on- and off-campus locations and works irregular hours as assigned, including evenings and weekends.

· As a member of Art Staff, the AP participates in script reading, play coverage, and artistic programming discussions.

· Providing rehearsal, tech, and performance coverage as assigned, including liaising work between artists and staff and reporting out on successes and struggles.

· Coordinating with Front of House, Education, and Access teams regarding content advisories and accessibility initiatives throughout the season.

· Working with PD to coordinate with departments to ensure smooth planning and execution of assigned projects.

· Maintaining producing calendar.

· Attending rehearsals, openings, events, and gatherings as assigned

· Continuing to build a database of local actors, directors, designers, stage managers, and other theatre professionals, established and up-and-coming.

· Assist in soliciting, selecting, and/or building opportunities for local artist professional development, workshops, and classes.

· Supporting community partnerships and outreach initiatives.

· Collaborate with the Education Department on initiatives connected to mainstage productions, student matinees, and training programs.

Experience & Qualifications

· 5+ years of professional theatre experience or 3+ years in arts management/producing.

· Demonstrated expertise in at least one theatrical discipline.

· Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills.

· Ability to work independently and collaboratively while managing multiple priorities across campus.

· Ability to navigate multiple in-person visits across campus, sometimes in the same day.

· Solutions-oriented approach to problem solving and conflict resolution.

· Proficiency with common digital tools and platforms (Outlook, Microsoft Office, Dropbox, Zoom).

· High level of facility and comfort with copy-editing, writing, and speaking.

· Sense of humor, emotional intelligence, and ability to motivate and inspire.

· Discretion, professionalism, and calm under pressure.

· Fluid, nimble, direct, and curious.

· Commitment to inclusive, respectful workplace practices.

Additional Information

This is a full-time position that requires evening and weekend work. Outside employment will not be accommodated.
