Position at Hood Lumber
Hood Lumber, a division of Hood Industries, Inc., is seeking a Controls PLC Technician to join our Silver Creek lumber mill. Our facility employs approximately 150 team members and plays a vital role in our lumber production operations.
In this role, you will troubleshoot, repair, program, and maintain industrial control systems to support safe, reliable, and efficient production. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of automation, electrical systems, and industrial equipment controls.

Position Description:
The PLC Technician supports mill operations by diagnosing, troubleshooting, and optimizing PLC-controlled electrical, instrumentation, and process systems, including mechanical power transmission, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical machinery and control systems throughout the plant, including sawmill, planer, boiler, and kiln operations.
  • Diagnose and resolve PLC, electrical, instrumentation, and process control issues.
  • Interpret PLC logic and make necessary modifications to restore or improve equipment performance.
  • Implement and support new control systems and upgrades to improve equipment efficiency and reliability.
  • Coordinate work activities with production and maintenance leadership to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain critical backups for all computer systems and PLC programs.
  • Set up and operate test equipment to evaluate system and component performance; document and analyze results.
  • Build, calibrate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical instruments and testing equipment.
  • Provide technical support before, during, and after construction or equipment installation projects.
  • Complete work orders and documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Conduct inspections for quality control and assurance programs, reporting findings and recommendations.
  • Use precision measurement tools to calibrate and adjust equipment.
  • Maintain technical knowledge through training programs, workshops, and on-the-job learning.
  • Comply with all OSHA, health, safety, and environmental regulations.

Education/Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree or technical certification is a plus.
  • 2+ years of industrial PLC experience.
  • Manufacturing experience required; wood products experience preferred.
  • Strong experience with Allen-Bradley ControlLogix and CompactLogix.
  • Knowledge of industrial electricity, motor controls, VFDs, and AC drives.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skillswith the ability to work in ateam environment and collaborate effectively across production, maintenance, and engineering.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and blueprints.
  • Willing and able to work any shift, holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, and work in industrial environments for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work at heights or in confined spaces, and safely use tools and equipment.
  • Ability to work in hot, dusty, noisy conditions and wear required PPE

Salary Range: $28.71-41.52/per hour
