Overview

MIXING & BANBURY MILLMAN -GRISWOLD PRODUCTS,  MOOSUP, CT  Join Griswold Products LLC in Moosup, CT as a key player in high-quality rubber manufacturing. Earn $25/hour in a full-time role operating rubber mixing mills and Banbury systems. Produce precision rubber compounds by controlling mix cycles, materials, and quality standards. Responsibilities
  • Operate, monitor, and maintain rubber mixing mill equipment and Banbury mixing systems according to established safety and quality standards.
  • Weigh, measure, and load raw materials such as rubber, chemicals, and additives into mills and Banbury mixers following exact formulas and batch sheets.
  • Mix rubber compounds to specified hardness, consistency, and quality requirements using both open mills and Banbury mixing cycles.
  • Set up, operate, and adjust Banbury mixer controls, including ram pressure, rotor speed, mix timing, and discharge procedures.
  • Perform visual, physical, and temperature-based inspections of rubber batches to ensure uniformity, dispersion, and correct properties.
  • Safely sheet out, cool, and process Banbury-mixed batches through mills when required.
  • Record detailed production, batch, temperature, and materials data accurately for both mill and Banbury operations.
  • Set up mills, adjust roll speeds, maintain proper temperatures, and ensure Banbury mixers are operating within required tolerances.
  • Perform routine cleaning, lubrication, and minor maintenance on mills and Banbury equipment; promptly report mechanical or safety concerns.
  • Safely handle raw materials and chemicals, following all hazard communication and PPE guidelines.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and strictly follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout.
  • Assist other production departments when needed to meet deadlines and production goals.
Qualifications
  • Physical Requirements

    • Ability to stand for long periods of time during the shift.
    • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs repeatedly.
    • Ability to work in a warm environment near heated mills, Banbury mixers, and heavy machinery.
    • Ability to bend, twist, reach, and perform repetitive manual tasks safely.
    • Comfortable working around rubber odors, dust, and industrial noise.

    Qualifications & Skills

    • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
    • Prior experience in rubber manufacturing, Banbury mixing, open milling, or machine operation is highly desirable.
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise batch instructions and safety procedures.
    • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot minor issues with mills or Banbury equipment.
    • Basic math and measurement skills required.
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision once trained.
    • Good communication skills and a strong team-oriented mindset.
    • Reliable attendance and willingness to work overtime when required.

    Work Environment

    • Industrial rubber production facility with heavy machinery, heated mixing equipment, and Banbury mixing systems.
    • PPE required (safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, steel-toe boots, etc.). 
    • Fast-paced and safety-sensitive environment.
