Job description

As the Engineer III, Hydraulic Modeling & Optimization supporting our Midstream organization, you will apply hydraulic modeling and optimization expertise to address system changes, improve operating efficiency, identify opportunities for improvement, mitigate risk, and support business decisions. You will contribute to the workload and resource management of the Hydraulic Modeling & Optimization Engineering team.

What You'll Do

  • Apply expertise in pipeline hydraulics, valves and compressor operations, pipeline drag-reducing additives (DRA), and regulatory requirements to develop hydraulic models.
  • Develop and tune static and transient hydraulic models for pipeline systems using standard simulation software packages to evaluate operating parameters, system design, system capacity, operating costs, and surge analysis.
  • Develop model scenarios to address business questions, support growth initiatives, and provide results useful for economic analysis.
  • Lead a team or participate as a team member to evaluate, develop, and implement pipeline optimization and operational strategies for the organization.
  • Evaluate projects for system optimization and develop project justification for equipment changes and replacements.
  • Develop and implement tools for Field Operations, Scheduling, and Control Center operations to minimize operating costs and improve overall asset optimization.
  • Propose, sponsor, lead, and provide expert input for system optimization, including operational improvements, engine replacements, and compressor and pump modifications.
  • Provide status updates and follow up with customers regarding modeling and optimization requests to align on realistic timelines, prioritization, resource allocation, and team deliverables.
  • Leverage relationships with industry peers and vendors by leading or participating in industry interest groups to remain current on regulations, technology, and software and tool options related to energy management and hydraulic modeling.

What You'll Bring - Required

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering
  • 4 or more years of engineering experience in the oil and gas industry
  • 2 or more years of experience with pipeline hydraulic modeling, stimulation, and optimization
  • Basic knowledge of natural gas pipelines, compressor stations, gas processing, and related facilities
  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 10%, including overnight travel

What Makes You Stand Out - Preferred

  • 7 or more years of experience in the oil and gas industry
  • 3 or more years of experience in field operations or corporate engineering
  • Advanced knowledge of rotating equipment (pumps, motors, and engines) and efficiency optimization
  • Advance or greater proficiency in programming principles required for software applications
  • Advance or greater proficiency in NextGen, Synergi Gas, ProMax, or similar hydraulic modeling software
  • Advanced or greater proficiency in Microsoft Excel

Compensation Range 

This position has a base salary range of $127,800 - $156,200.

Midstream

The Phillips 66 Midstream business is a safe, reliable, and trusted provider for the movement, storage, gathering, and processing of liquid or gas energy via pipelines or terminals. We are an industry leader in logistics and operate or manage more than 70,000 miles of pipelines that transport crude oil from oil fields to refineries and finished products from refineries to storage terminals. We operate 39 terminals that supply finished products to consumer gas stations, as well as crude oil and NGL storage terminals and NGL fractionation facilities. Our capabilities include extensive natural gas gathering and processing operations, enhancing our wellhead-to-market strategy. We also provide the connectivity between the various Phillips 66 business units.
