What is a full time robotics simulator?

Full Time Robotics Simulators are professionals who work with specialized software to create virtual models and environments for testing and developing robots. Their main role is to simulate real-world conditions, allowing engineers to evaluate robot performance, safety, and efficiency before building physical prototypes. This helps reduce costs, identify potential issues early, and speed up the development process. Full Time Robotics Simulators often collaborate with robotics engineers, programmers, and designers to ensure the simulations reflect real-world scenarios accurately.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a robotics simulation engineer?

To thrive as a Robotics Simulation Engineer, you need a strong background in robotics, computer science, and mathematics, typically supported by a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with simulation tools such as ROS (Robot Operating System), Gazebo, and programming languages like Python or C++ is crucial. Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help you collaborate with engineers and interpret simulation results accurately. These skills ensure precise modeling, validation of robotic behaviors, and efficient integration of new technologies into real-world robotic systems.

What are some common challenges faced by robotics simulator professionals in a full-time role, and how can they be addressed?

Full-time Robotics Simulator professionals often encounter challenges such as ensuring simulation accuracy, managing complex software tools, and keeping up with rapidly evolving robotics technologies. Collaborating closely with robotics engineers and software developers is essential to validate simulation results and integrate new features efficiently. Staying current with industry-standard platforms and regularly attending training or workshops can help overcome technical hurdles and improve simulation fidelity. Open communication within multidisciplinary teams also plays a key role in addressing unexpected issues and achieving project goals.

Job description

Our organization in Amazon Robotics builds robots that perform contact-rich manipulation safely and reliably in complex, unstructured environments at Amazon scale. Our scientists and engineers push the boundaries of robotic manipulation to handle unparalleled object diversity with the high level of assurance our customers expect. We learn from real-world data at a scale that few teams in robotics can access.
We are seeking a Software Development Engineer to accelerate a small team advancing reinforcement learning for manipulation

You will drive the software path from a trained policy to reliable execution on real robots, and build the tooling and automation that help the team run and scale experiments. You will create new tools and pipelines while leveraging existing work from adjacent teams to move fast and scale quickly. You will help get learned policies running on hardware, in real time, and turn promising research results into capabilities that run robustly on physical robots.

You will join a small team whose mission reaches beyond any single product: to pick and stow billions of items across many future robotics applications.
Key job responsibilities
- Build the tooling and automation the team needs to run and scale experiments, automate evaluation, and move data where it needs to go. Leverage existing solutions where they exist, but develop novel systems when required.
- Partner with scientists to get learned policies running in real time on robot hardware, and help close performance and latency gaps.
- Identify and remove the recurring engineering bottlenecks that slow the team down.
- Write production-quality code and build systems the team can rely on and reuse.
- Partner with teams across simulation, control, hardware, and infrastructure to scale reliably and quickly.
