Maryville Academy has an opening for an experienced full-time Registered Nurse in our Children's Healthcare Center.

About the Children's Healthcare Center
Our Children's Healthcare Center provides care for medically fragile and/or technology-dependent children, ages newborn through 21 years. Most children are admitted from a hospital NICU or PICU. This program focuses on patients who no longer require acute care, but who need significant medical attention related to wound therapy, PICC antibiotics, post-surgical care, NG, GJ tube feedings, and ventilator care. The Center is a "home away from home" for medically fragile children and their families.
About the Registered Nurse Position
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides quality skilled nursing services to Maryville patients according to the standards and guidelines of the State of Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. Under the supervision of the Charge Nurse and direction of the Director of Nursing, the Registered Professional Nurse (RN) supports physicians and Physician Extenders in the provision of patient care. The RN is accountable for the delivery of patient care utilizing the nursing process within the standards, policies, procedures and guidelines of the organization. Position requires the consistent exercise of discretion and judgment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Follows all Maryville's policies and procedures, all standard operating procedures for designated work sites/program, and all medical operating procedures and standard medical operating procedures;
  • Assists physician with patient assessment, examinations, treatments and procedures;
  • Provides patient care and documents conditions, interventions, observations and activities in collaboration with a Registered Professional Nurse.
  • Admits and discharges children utilizing appropriate forms and completes them within one hour of admission/discharge;
  • Thoroughly educates and explains procedures to patients and family members and assists them in coping with illnesses and evaluate patient responses;
  • Orientates new staff when requested. Attends mandatory in-services;
  • Is required to cover different work shifts if needed for the patient safety;
  • Administers medications;
  • Maintains a clean, well-stocked patient care area;
  • Keeps all inventory records, logs and maintains required records;
  • Completes assessment of assigned children within first hour of the shift;
  • Documents patient care and/or status changes at least every two hours;
  • Processes orders for assigned children within two hours of receipt;
  • Maintains appropriate communication with all stakeholders regarding appointments and health status changes. Communicates the same to Supervisors and Director;
  • Provides care coordination and leadership to LPN's and CNA's;
  • Maintains effective patient inventory levels;
  • Obtains specimens as directed;
  • Provides assistance with ADL's and meals when needed;
  • Assist in the supervision and training of Certified Nursing Assistants when delegated;
  • Participates in continuous quality improvements efforts;
  • Develops and modifies the Nurse's Plan of Care;
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Experience:
  • Graduate of certified Registered Nurse Program;
  • Must be currently licensed as a R.N in the state of Illinois;
  • Experience in pediatric, emergency care or medical-surgical nursing;
  • Experienced in the care of complex pediatric care;
  • Ventilator experience preferred;
  • Spanish speaking preferred.

Skills /Knowledge:
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing;
  • Knowledge of medical terminology;
  • Ability to respond to questions in a tactful and professional manner;
  • Ability/willingness to adhere to the established departmental service standards;

Physical Demands:
  • Required to frequently sit, stand, bend, stoop and walk, sometimes for extended periods;
  • Required to lift/ move objects weighing in excess of 40 pounds;
  • Must have visual, hearing, and learning capabilities sufficient to perform the essential functions defined above.

Environment and Scheduling:
  • Work is performed in designated clinical or administrative office settings;
  • Hours: two 12-hour shifts (7pm-7am) and two 8-hour shifts (11:00pm-7am) weekly, every other weekend 12 hour shifts, Saturday-Sunday
  • Duties may involve contact with youth who may be threatening, aggressive and/or under the influence of drugs or alcohol;
  • Must be flexible and available to work additional hours when necessary;
  • May be scheduled to work on weekends and/or holidays.
  • Complies with weekend schedule requirements according to commitment level. Full-time at least every other weekend. As needed: one weekend shift/month minimum.
  • Is required to work a minimum of two fall/winter and two spring/summer holidays for full-time. As needed is required to work one fall/winter and one spring/summer holiday.
