Description:

Job Summary: Provides direct and indirect patient care in the medical-surgical setting. Communicates with physicians/Nurse Manager/co-workers, as appropriate about changes in patientโ€™s clinical condition including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Additionally, is able to perform general nursing duties in all departments with adequate supervision.


Shift: 7p-7a


Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:

  • Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
  • Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patientโ€™s age.
  • Carries out physician orders in a timely manner.
  • Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy. This includes: pediatric, geriatric and the general patient population.
  • Ability to revise plan of care as indicated by the patientโ€™s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness.
  • Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning, family is included in teaching as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates ability to perform treatments and provide services to level of licensure.
  • Communicates appropriately and clearly to Nurse Manager, co-workers, and physicians.
  • Consults other departments, as appropriate, to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patientโ€™s needs.
  • Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including: pediatric, geriatric and general population.
  • Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
  • Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity; ensures patient confidentiality.
  • Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.
  • Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
  • Documentation meets current standards and policies.
  • Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and family; communicates with social service/discharge planner regarding both in hospital and post discharge needs.
  • Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
  • Is available to float and provide direct patient care to multiple units

Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:

  • Coordinates and supervises patient care as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned within the RN scope of practice.
Requirements:

Professional Requirements:

  • Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
  • Completes annual educational requirements.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time.
  • Wears identification while on duty, uses computerized punch time system correctly.
  • Attends at least 75% of staff meetings, reads and initials all monthly staff meeting minutes.
  • Attends continuing education in-services.
  • Communicates with supervisor available shifts by designated date.

Charge Nurse Responsibilities: (if applicable)

  • Directs patient admission and placement on the unit.
  • Notes orders accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Completes patient classifications accurately and in a timely fashion.
  • Utilizes staff, maximizing use of time, skill and knowledge in making patient assignments.
  • Effectively delegates and ensure completion of crash car, DE-FIB, narcotic, refrigerator and waved testing each shift.
  • Demonstrates leadership, knowledge, creativity, and judgment when initiating policies.
  • Keeps House Supervisor informed of high-risk patients, potential problems, bed status and transfers.
  • Demonstrates ability to function as a resource person for staff in resolving patient care and interdepartmental issues.

Education/Regulatory Requirements & Experience:

  • Must possess and maintain current Registered Nurse licensure to practice in Oklahoma.
  • Current BLS certification required; must be obtained during initial orientation if not current upon hire.
  • Current ALS and PALS certification required; must be obtained during the first year of employment if not current upon hire.
  • Previous work history that demonstrates steady attendance and punctuality is required.

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read & communicate effectively in English; additional languages preferred.
