Job description

Southland Holdings is seeking an experienced Shop Welder/Fabricator for our Burleson, TX Facility.
Duties:

• Welding pipe, templates, trench boxes, steel piles, welding related equipment repairs Welds and assembles metal components to effectively repair construction and support equipment.

• Ability to read and understand fabrication drawings and specifications from the Engineering

• Attend work on the schedule established by the employer and without excessive absenteeism.

• When not welding, must be willing to work with the crews as directed

• Follow all safe work practices.

• Obtain parts and accurately generate material lists as needed.

• Access area to be welded by climbing ladder if needed.

• Use disc grinder to smooth out, weld, or grind parts prior to welding.

• Operate ARC and MIG welding units and equipment effectively.
• Maintain arc and speed of movement to form specified penetration of structural         welding processes.
• Weld in horizontal, vertical and overhead planes (all position welding).
• Examine existing welds for bead size and quality specifications.
• Preparation of work piece by use of grinding or cutting
• Repair improperly welded pieces and filling holes.
• Position and clamp work pieces together or assemble them in a jig fixture.
• Fabricate new or replacement parts for all types of equipment and structural applications
• Assemble component parts using hand and small power tools.
• May change hoses, fittings, air valves, etc. as needed and cleanup work area daily.
Requirements:
  • Stick (ARC) and wire (MIG), pipe, beam fabrication and fitting, ability to pass pre-employment Weld Test Understand and follow basic welding Safety procedures.
  • Must have a good work ethic and be able to adjust to change, be a role model for others and lead by example. Willing to be a team player, take ownership, be honest, act with integrity and willing to contribute to the success of the company. Must embrace safety as a core value by following all company policies and procedures.
  •  Must be able to rig/lift heavy odd, shaped parts safely and effectively with forklifts/overhead cranes.
  • Must be physically capable of navigating rugged terrain for purpose of performing duties outlined above.
  • Must work in all weather conditions and be prepared for both extreme heat and cold.
  • Must be able to work independently and maintain a schedule of work.
  • Must be available to work Overtime.
  • Ability to stand, squat, stoop, bend, lift for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 50-90 pounds personally, and up to 150 pounds with assistance.
  • Must pass post offer drug screen

Desired qualifications:
  • Certified welding certificates preferred.
  • Experience with heavy equipment and custom fabrication is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean MVR.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a similar role
