Full Time Rf Design Engineer information

What is the difference between Full Time Rf Design Engineer vs RF Systems Engineer?

AspectFull Time Rf Design EngineerRF Systems Engineer
Primary FocusDesigning RF circuits and componentsIntegrating RF systems within larger communication systems
Required SkillsRF circuit design, simulation, testingRF system integration, system-level analysis
Work EnvironmentDesign labs, R&D departmentsSystems integration, field testing
CertificationsRF design certifications, EE degreeRF system certifications, EE degree

While both roles involve RF technology, the Full Time Rf Design Engineer primarily focuses on designing RF circuits and components, whereas the RF Systems Engineer concentrates on integrating RF systems into complete communication solutions. The roles often overlap but differ in scope and responsibilities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Full Time RF Design Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Time RF Design Engineer, you need a solid background in electrical engineering, RF circuit design, and signal processing, typically supported by a relevant degree. Experience with tools such as HFSS, ADS, MATLAB, and proficiency in simulation and PCB design software is essential. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication make candidates stand out in this role. These skills ensure the successful development, optimization, and troubleshooting of RF systems critical to wireless communication technologies.

What does a Full Time RF Design Engineer do?

A Full Time RF (Radio Frequency) Design Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and testing radio frequency circuits and systems used in wireless communication devices and networks. Their work involves creating schematics, simulating RF circuits, selecting components, and ensuring that designs meet regulatory and performance standards. They often collaborate with hardware and software teams to integrate RF solutions into products such as smartphones, satellites, and communication infrastructure. Additionally, RF Design Engineers troubleshoot and optimize existing designs to improve efficiency and reduce interference.

What are some common challenges faced by RF Design Engineers in a full-time role, and how can they be addressed?

Full-time RF Design Engineers often encounter challenges such as managing signal interference, ensuring regulatory compliance, and meeting strict performance specifications. Balancing cost, size, and power constraints while optimizing circuit and antenna performance can be demanding. Collaboration with cross-functional teams—such as hardware, software, and compliance engineers—is crucial for troubleshooting and validating designs. Staying up-to-date with the latest simulation tools and industry standards helps address these challenges and contributes to successful project outcomes.

WHAT YOU DO AT AMD CHANGES EVERYTHING

At AMD, our mission is to build great products that accelerate next-generation computing experiences—from AI and data centers, to PCs, gaming and embedded systems. Grounded in a culture of innovation and collaboration, we believe real progress comes from bold ideas, human ingenuity and a shared passion to create something extraordinary. When you join AMD, you’ll discover the real differentiator is our culture. We push the limits of innovation to solve the world’s most important challenges—striving for execution excellence, while being direct, humble, collaborative, and inclusive of diverse perspectives. Join us as we shape the future of AI and beyond.  Together, we advance your career.

THE ROLE:

The candidate will be responsible for the design of high-speed ADC-based receivers, DAC-based transmitters, or silicon photonics transceivers. AMD Serdes Technology Group develops high-performance, multi-protocol wireline transceivers in state-of-the-art CMOS process. We are currently seeking an analog/mixed-signal design intern to join our world-class team.

THE PERSON:

A motivated and detailoriented individual who communicates clearly, collaborates well with others, and approaches complex design challenges with curiosity and a strong problemsolving mindset. They are eager to learn, receptive to feedback, and able to work effectively in a fastpaced, researchdriven environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Define circuit architectures optimized for high bandwidth electrical and optical links
  • Perform link level simulation in Matlab and/or SPICE to prove the architecture
  • Perform design and modeling of on-die RF passive components (e.g., inductors and capacitors) and/or optical structures
  • Design circuit components (e.g., DAC, SAR-ADC, S/H, Analog Front-End, PLL, reference generation, clock distribution) required to implement the architecture in advanced FinFET process

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in design & simulation of analog/mixed signal circuits (ADC, DAC, CTLE, PLL, Clocking circuits..etc) for SerDes links
  • Hands on experiences in CMOS circuit designs with advanced technology nodes
  • Proficient in CAD Tools for simulations and design implementation
  • Experience design of wireline and optical transceiver building blocks
  • Good communication skills
  • Strong circuit design experiences in high-speed SerDes
  • A penchant for problem solving

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • BS or MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering
