How much do full time remote optometrist jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 11, 2026, the average yearly pay for full time remote optometrist in the United States is $124,213.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $98,000.00 and $146,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Can you work from home as an optometrist?

Full-time remote optometrists can perform certain tasks such as patient consultations, follow-up care, and administrative duties from home, often using telehealth platforms and digital eye exam tools. However, they typically need to visit clinics or labs for eye examinations, fittings, and equipment calibration, and must hold proper licensure to provide remote care. The extent of remote work depends on state regulations and the employer’s policies.

What is the difference between Full Time Remote Optometrist vs Part Time Remote Optometrist?

AspectFull Time Remote OptometristPart Time Remote Optometrist
CredentialsLicensed Optometrist, OD certificationLicensed Optometrist, OD certification
Work EnvironmentRemote, flexible hours, full-time scheduleRemote, flexible hours, part-time schedule
Employer & Industry UsageTelehealth companies, healthcare providersTelehealth companies, healthcare providers
Search & Comparison IntentLooking for full-time remote optometry rolesSeeking part-time remote optometry opportunities

Full Time Remote Optometrists work full-time hours providing eye care services remotely, often with a fixed schedule. Part Time Remote Optometrists work fewer hours, offering flexibility while still delivering remote eye care. Both roles require licensure and are common in telehealth settings, but differ mainly in hours and commitment.

Is optometry becoming oversaturated?

Optometry as a profession remains in demand due to the aging population and increasing awareness of eye health. While some markets may experience competition, opportunities for full-time remote optometrists with proper licensing and skills continue to grow, especially with telehealth advancements.

What is the highest paid optometry job?

The highest paid optometrists typically work in specialized fields such as ocular disease, vision therapy, or as consultants, often earning higher salaries than general practitioners. Salaries can also increase with experience, advanced certifications, and working in private practices or high-income regions. Leadership roles like clinic directors or owning a practice may also lead to higher compensation.

Will AI replace optometrist?

AI cannot fully replace optometrists, as the role requires clinical judgment, patient interaction, and hands-on procedures that AI cannot perform. AI tools can assist with diagnostics and data analysis, but the profession relies on human expertise, communication skills, and certification. Optometrists will continue to play a vital role in eye care alongside technological advancements.
