Position Title: Training & Technical Assistance Specialist

Reports to: Director of Training and Capacity Building
Classification: Full-time, Exempt (Remote with periodic in-person meetings)


Position Summary

The Training and Technical Assistance Specialist works as a member of TCEDSVs Training and Capacity Building Team to strengthen Tennessees domestic and sexual violence programs through high-quality, trauma-informed training, technical assistance, and resource development. This position supports member agencies in building organizational capacity, responding to emerging trends, and improving services and outcomes for survivors statewide.

A key focus of this role includes supporting training and technical assistance related to the intersection of substance useincluding opioid misuseand domestic and sexual violence, helping programs better understand, prevent, and respond to the complex and overlapping needs of survivors. The Specialist supports grant-funded initiatives in this area while ensuring alignment with TCEDSVs mission, values, and funder requirements.


Key Responsibilities

Training Delivery & Learning Support

  • Deliver engaging, high-quality training for domestic and sexual violence professionals using both in-person and virtual formats.
  • Provide training on topics related to the intersection of substance use (including opioid misuse), domestic violence, sexual assault, and survivor safety, as assigned.
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of the Coalitions Annual Conference, the Tommy Burks Victim Assistance Academy, webinars, and other Coalition-hosted trainings.
  • Support the logistical preparation of training, including coordination with speakers, facilitators, and participants.
  • Facilitate affinity group meetings (e.g., Advocates Roundtable) to promote peer learning, collaboration, and shared problem-solving.
  • Adapt training content to meet the needs of diverse audiences while maintaining fidelity to trauma-informed, survivor-centered, and evidence-based practices.


Technical Assistance & Capacity Building

  • Provide individualized technical assistance to domestic and sexual violence programs on topics including, but not limited to:
    • Program operations, staffing, and client needs
    • Trauma-informed and survivor-centered service delivery
    • Best practice standards and emerging trends
    • The intersection of substance use, opioid misuse, domestic violence, and sexual assault
    • Survivor safety considerations related to substance use
    • Domestic and sexual violence laws and policy considerations
    • Federal and state grant requirements and compliance
  • Support programs in developing policies, procedures, and practices that address substance use in a way that is non-punitive, survivor-centered, and aligned with harm-reduction principles, as appropriate.
  • Develop toolkits, curricula, eLearning modules, guidance documents, and other resources that address both DV/SA and substance use intersections.
  • Respond to technical assistance requests in a timely, professional, and solution-oriented manner.


Evaluation, Grant Support & Accountability

  • Track training participation, technical assistance activities, and outcomesincluding substance userelated training and TAto support continuous quality improvement.
  • Contribute to grant reporting by documenting activities, outputs, and outcomes accurately and on time.
  • Provide guidance and technical assistance to member programs related to grant compliance, as appropriate.
  • Maintain organized records and documentation in alignment with grant and Coalition requirements.
  • Follow established systems and processes to ensure accountability and consistency across training and technical assistance efforts.


Team & Organizational Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with Training and Capacity Building Team members and cross-functional teams to advance Coalition priorities.
  • Communicate emerging trends, gaps, and technical assistance needs related to substance use and DV/SA intersections and other areas to the Director of Training and Capacity Building.
  • Participate in team meetings, planning sessions, and professional development activities.
  • Uphold TCEDSVs commitment to trauma-informed, survivor-centered, culturally responsive, and equity-driven practice in all interactions.


Education & Experience Requirements

Education

  • Bachelors degree in social work, psychology, human services, or a related field required.
  • Equivalent professional experience may be considered in lieu of degree.


Experience

  • Three (3) or more years of experience working in a domestic and/or sexual violence program.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience facilitating training for adult learners, both in-person and virtual.
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit organizations and community-based service systems.
  • Knowledge of the dynamics of domestic and sexual violence and the systems that support survivors.
  • Experience applying trauma-informed and evidence-based practices.
  • Experience with federal and/or state grant-funded programs preferred.

Work Environment

TCEDSV operates remotely but does require occasional in-person staff meetings. Remote schedules are established for the position by the immediate supervisor in consultation with the CEO and COO. Periodic statewide travel is required to deliver on-site training and technical assistance.
