Job Description Summary:

Breakthru Beverage Group (BBG) is in the midst of a major enterprise transformation to modernize our data foundations, simplify our technology landscape, and enable AI-driven decision-making across the business. A core pillar of this transformation is the development of a modern, scalable Snowflake data platform on AWS - the backbone for enterprise reporting, data products, and advanced analytics.
We are seeking a strategic, hands-on engineering and architecture leader to build and evolve BBG's enterprise data platform and establish our long-term enterprise architecture standards. This senior data leader will define the blueprint for how data is ingested, modeled, governed, and consumed - while also being unafraid to dive into code, solve complex engineering challenges, and set engineering excellence across the organization.
The Sr. Director of Data Engineering & Enterprise Architecture will lead the teams and capabilities responsible for building BBG's modern data platform and defining the enterprise-wide data architecture required for operational reporting, business insights, and AI products. This role sits at the intersection of strategy, architecture, and hands-on engineering. You will define and enforce architectural patterns, build reusable data products, drive modernization away from legacy systems, and ensure the platform is AI-ready and scalable to support BBG's multi-year transformation agenda.

Job Description:

This role follows a flexible hybrid schedule, with two days per week in the office and three days working from home. This role can be performed from any Breakthru Beverage Office Location.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Build & Lead High-Performing Teams
    • Build, hire, and lead a high-performing team of data engineers and architects, setting clear expectations, standards, and accountability.
    • Coach, mentor, and develop team members through hands-on technical leadership, fostering a culture of excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement.
  • Strategy & Planning
  • Define and own the multi-year data engineering and enterprise data architecture strategy, ensuring alignment with BBG's short- and long-term business objectives and overall technology roadmap.
  • Translate enterprise and business priorities into a clear, executable roadmap that balances near-term delivery, long-term architectural integrity, and AI readiness.
  • Partner with IT, Finance, and business leaders to prioritize initiatives, sequence investments, and ensure disciplined execution across BBG's data and technology transformation portfolio.
  • Lead Data Engineering & Platform Build
    • Build, lead, and mature BBG's Data Engineering function responsible for the Snowflake data platform, ingestion pipelines, data transformations, and reusable enterprise data assets.
    • Develop and enforce modern engineering standards - CI/CD, dbt, Terraform, orchestration, testing, observability - to drive reliability, automation, and consistency.
    • Engineer the platform for AI readiness and developer productivity, designing scalable, AI-ready data foundations while leveraging AI-assisted development to accelerate delivery, improve code quality, and enhance the day-to-day engineer experience across the Data & AI organization.
  • Own Enterprise Data Architecture
    • Define the enterprise data architecture roadmap across ingestion patterns, canonical modeling, data products, MDM alignment, semantic layers, and AI-ready structures.
    • Establish standards for data modeling, metadata, lineage, data contracts, data quality, and architectural governance across the organization.
    • Own enterprise data architecture decisions and tooling strategy, leading evaluation, selection, and governance of data platforms and tools to ensure they align with BBG's target architecture, security standards, scalability requirements, and long-term roadmap.
  • Be Hands-On when Needed
    • Act as a hands-on technical leader, setting the engineering bar through direct involvement in complex technical challenges and critical architectural decisions.
    • Comfortable writing, reviewing and approving production-grade code (SQL, Python, dbt, Terraform) if required, ensuring high standards for quality, performance, security, and maintainability.
    • Lead code reviews and design reviews, providing constructive feedback, enforcing best practices, and ensuring alignment with BBG's engineering and architectural standards.
  • Partner Across the Business
    • Work closely with BBG's business functions to translate their needs into scalable data architecture and engineering deliverables.
    • Collaborate with SAP, AWS, and Snowflake partners to ensure alignment with BBG's modernization and investment roadmap.
    • Communicate architectural decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, influencing direction and securing alignment.
  • Other duties, as assigned by the jobholder's supervisor, may also be required

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, information technology or related work experience
  • 15+ years of experience in data engineering, enterprise data architecture, or software engineering, with 8+ years in an engineering or architecture leadership role.
