Oil Sands Monitoring Data Services
Scope:
The Data Services team in Technology and Innovation supports the Oil Sands Monitoring Program (OSM) in Environment and Protected Areas. OSM Data Services provide the foundation and support to enable access to scientifically credible data collected by the OSM Program to all stakeholders. The team provides technical services and data management support to data-related projects implementing a data management framework, data governance, and technical systems in order to support integrated reporting and assessment of environmental conditions in the Oil Sands region. Data collection, data quality, data management, and data availability are critical components for achievement of the OSM Program's objectives.
Working with multiple stakeholder and users, BI Analyst will also understand the business goals and clearly communicate insights to stakeholders. In this role, The BI Analyst will work primarily to support Data Services workplan objectives.
Duties:
Design and develop complex dashboards, scorecards, and visual analytics using Power BI
Design, develop, and maintain data models and visualizations using Microsoft Power BI
Data Modeling & ETL Development
Create optimized, reusable data models using DAX and Power Query M for enterprise-wide reporting
Build interactive dashboards and reports tailored to business needs using Microsoft Power BI
Integrate Power BI with various Microsoft Azure data sources and on-premises databases
Work closely with Business users, data architects and data engineers to manage data pipelines, staging areas, and semantic models.
Work with business units to gather reporting requirements and KPIs.
Translate ambiguous business questions into concrete BI solutions.
Present insights and findings in clear, executive-friendly formats.
Provide end-user training and support to ensure adoption of BI tools
Maintain and publish datasets and dashboards in Power BI Service with scheduled refreshes and alerts
Optimize dashboards and reports for performance
Implement security and user access controls within Power BI
Implement incremental data refresh, row-level security (RLS), and performance tuning strategies in Power BI.
Conduct deep-dive analytics to uncover trends, anomalies, and business opportunities.
Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and security compliance across all reporting assets
Equipment Requirements:
Resource will require own equipment. Resource must provide their own computer and related equipment. The computer's operating system must be a modern version of Windows or MacOS that is compatible with Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) and related software for remote access. Windows is preferred due to better compatibility. AVD/remote-related software will be installed on the resource's computer.
In the event that the Contractor's resources are directed to work remotely, the Contractor shall be responsible for providing all of its equipment, including computers, software, printers, supplies, desks and chairs. However, the Province shall ensure that the Contractor's resources have the necessary access and credentials to the Government of Alberta's system.
