Medical, Dental, Vision

Job description

  • $120,000/year W2 salary, paid weekly; day-one health, dental, vision benefits
  • Full-time (40 hrs/week), on-site at Alpha School's Kirkland, WA campus (temporary placement at another Alpha campus possible before Kirkland opens)
  • Active Washington State Teaching Certificate required. No certificate, no interview.
You already have a WA teaching certificate. The question is whether you still want to spend your days lecturing, grading, and pushing a one-size-fits-all curriculum.
You are not a teacher here. You motivate. The most supportive thing you can do for a kid who hit 99% of a weekly goal is refuse to call it done. If that makes you uncomfortable, stop reading. If it lights you up because holding the bar is how you show a student you believe they can clear it, keep going.
At Alpha, students learn their academics through AI-powered adaptive apps. No lectures. No textbooks. No lesson plans to grind out on a Sunday. About 60% of your week you run one-hour life-skills workshops on public speaking, focus, and giving and receiving real feedback. Around 30% you sit with students 1:1 or in small groups, review Coachbot analytics, and push each of them to their weekly app progression targets. The final 10% is data review that turns the numbers into next week's coaching plan. You will not read a script; the best in this role adapt workshops and design new ones when something is missing.
Great work here is not "fun sessions." It is measurable improvement. A semester succeeds when at least 90% of your cohort shows pre-to-post gains on Test2Pass, at least 90% hit their weekly learning-app progression targets, and students rate their experience with you 4 out of 5 or better. Miss any of those three and you miss the job. As you prove you can hold the bar, the path opens to Lead Guide - coaching newer Guides while still running a cohort - and from there to Campus Lead.
If you want a curriculum handed to you, or believe warmth and high standards are in tension, this is not the job. If your WA certificate is active and you are energized by coaching K-8 kids to real outcomes instead of lecturing them through a textbook, apply today.
What you will be doing
  • Leading one-hour life-skills workshops for K-8 cohorts on public speaking, focus, and giving and receiving feedback, adapting the playbook and designing new sessions when you spot a gap
  • Administering Test2Pass pre- and post-assessments and coaching students who have not yet demonstrated mastery until they do
  • Running daily 1:1 and small-group motivation sessions that push every student to their weekly app progression targets, using Coachbot analytics, Alpha's incentive systems (school currency, leaderboards), and your relationship with each kid to break resistance
  • Reviewing weekly performance data, spotting at-risk students early, and applying corrective action within the same week
  • Being the adult who holds the bar and the adult kids want to talk to; warmth earns you the right to push, and pushing shows you believe they can get there
What you will NOT be doing
  • Lecturing at a whiteboard or writing daily lesson plans; academic instruction lives in the apps, not in you
  • Writing curriculum from scratch; you bring a proven playbook to life with energy and storytelling
  • Supervising kids at computers or babysitting them while they drift through the day; motivation here is active, personal, and relentless
  • Lowering a weekly goal or passing a student without demonstrated mastery to keep pace or avoid a hard conversation
  • Grading homework or managing parent communication
Key responsibilities
Coach a K-8 cohort to measurable mastery of life skills and weekly learning-app progression targets.
Candidate requirements
  • Active, valid Washington State Teaching Certificate (issued by WA OSPI) or able to obtain it quickly
  • Bachelor's degree in any subject
  • Willing to work full-time (40 hrs/week) on-site at Alpha School's Kirkland, WA campus (with temporary placement at another Alpha campus if needed before Kirkland opens)
  • Willingness to let AI handle the instructional content while you focus on motivation and life-skills coaching
  • Legal right to work in the US without visa sponsorship
Nice to have
  • Experience working with K-8 kids in any capacity (classroom, tutoring, athletics, debate, drama, camps, or after-school programs)
  • Personal history of high achievement (academic, athletic, or professional), such that holding others to a hard bar is a pattern, not a posture
  • Storytelling and stage presence strong enough to hold a room of 12-year-olds for an hour without raising your voice
  • Track record of turning disengaged or resistant students into active participants
