Job description

Management Trainee (TAWA RISE Program) — 99 Ranch Market

Location: 925 Blossom Hill Rd #1384, San Jose, CA 95123 (rotational across stores, HQ, and logistics within ~50 miles)

Job Type: Full-Time — hourly during training, transitioning to a salaried (exempt) management role on completion

Pay: $20–$28/hour during the training period, based on experience

Schedule: 40–45 hours/week, 6 days/week during training; weekend and holiday availability required

About the Role

The TAWA RISE Management Trainee Program is a 12–18 month leadership track built to turn you into a manager at one of the largest Asian supermarket chains in the country. You'll rotate through store operations, headquarters, logistics, merchandising, and marketing — learning how the business actually runs from the floor up. When you finish, you step into a management role matched to your strengths and the company's needs.

A Note on the Program

This is a hands-on, fast-paced program, not a desk job. Expect a 6-day week during training, evenings, weekends, and holidays, and real travel — you'll move between locations within about a 50-mile radius and should be open to relocation for rotational assignments or your permanent placement. The people who thrive here genuinely want a long-term retail-leadership career and are willing to put in the rotations to get there. If that's you, this is a rare chance to be developed into a leader from day one.

What You'll Do

  • Rotate through store operations, HQ, logistics, merchandising, and marketing to learn the full business
  • Apply company SOPs, product knowledge, and operational standards on the sales floor every day
  • Support daily store and department operations to hit performance and sales targets
  • Help plan and run promotions, and maintain product quality, FIFO inventory control, and merchandising standards
  • Build leadership skills through supervising staff, scheduling, and supporting your team
  • Train in Human Capital Management — coaching, performance evaluation, and team development
  • Keep the work environment safe, clean, and compliant, and complete program assessments along the way

Required

  • Bilingual: fluent in English plus Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese) or Spanish
  • Associate degree or equivalent hands-on work experience
  • 1–2 years of relevant work experience
  • Willingness to relocate and travel between locations within a ~50-mile radius during training
  • Able to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Authorized to work in the United States

Preferred

  • Prior retail, grocery, or management experience
  • Experience with retail systems or SAP
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills

Compensation & Benefits

  • $20–$28/hour during training, then a salaried (exempt) management role on program completion
  • Medical, vision, dental, and life insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off
  • Employee discount and a long-term service award
  • A clear path into Store Manager, Assistant Store Manager, Department Manager (Grocery, Produce, Meat, Seafood, Cashier, and more), or corporate roles in merchandising and logistics
