About Bremen Hospital

Community Hospital of Bremen is a 24-bed critical access hospital serving Bremen, Indiana, and the surrounding communities in Marshall and St. Joseph counties. As part of Beacon Health System, patients have access to providers, resources and services from across the entire health system. The hospital provides the community with: Emergency Department; diagnostic imaging and lab; radiology, including MRI, CT and ultrasound; general surgery; obstetrics; sleep lab; mammography; physical and occupational therapy; occupational health; swing bed services; and infusion therapy.  

What You’ll Do 

As a Phlebotomist Outreach, you will report to Lab Outreach Coordinator and Director of Laboratory. This position obtains specimens in outreach facilities by phlebotomy and assists the outreach processes to include but not limited to pre-registration, order entry, registration and supply management.

Phlebotomist Outreach Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage lab test requests, including order entry, pre-registration, insurance verification, and documentation in the LIS.
  • Ensure accurate patient data capture for billing; resolve errors and follow up with facilities as needed.
  • Handle phone calls, communications (including Doc Halo), and coordination with outreach facilities.
  • Collect, label, process, and transport specimens; maintain proper handling, timing, and documentation standards.
  • Cancel/reschedule labs when necessary and communicate updates to facilities.
  • Verify completeness of test requisitions and required patient/order details.
  • Maintain knowledge of specimen collection practices and stability requirements.
  • Monitor and distribute supplies; track expiration dates and maintain equipment (e.g., centrifuges), including troubleshooting and transport.
  • Travel between facilities to perform duties and support outreach services.
  • Follow safety, confidentiality, and professional standards in all interactions.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness and report issues or unusual requests to leadership.
  • Work independently, prioritize tasks, and comply with hospital policies and procedures.
  • Participate in continuing education and collaborate with team members to ensure quality patient care.
  • Support onsite phlebotomy team as needed and confirm task completion before end of shift.

What You Bring 

As a Phlebotomist Outreach, it requires the ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, quality-driven environment with multiple priorities, frequent deadlines, and potential stress. Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, to maintain positive relationships with patients, staff, and the public. Possesses solid organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Utilizes proficient computer and telephone skills to complete tasks accurately and efficiently. Seeks guidance when needed and maintains compliance with all applicable federal, state, and hospital regulations, including those related to ethical standards, conduct, patient privacy, and protected health information. A working knowledge of general phlebotomy practices and procedures is preferred.

Required Qualifications 

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of high school diploma (with courses in mathematics and some biological sciences preferred).
  • Minimum of one year of patient care, customer service, general office/clerical or related experience is preferred.
  • Completion of a phlebotomy training program or experience preferred.
  • Qualifies as testing personnel for moderate complexity testing as defined in CFR.493.1423.
  • Must have a valid state issued driver's license and reliable transportation.
