About the Role
As a Specialist in Communications at Carvana, you will help uncover, shape, and share stories that demonstrate who we are and where we're going. You'll pitch compelling stories, build trusted relationships with journalists, and create content for a growing range of earned and owned media channels.
The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic storyteller with strong news judgment, excellent writing skills, and a talent for making complex information clear and engaging. You'll collaborate with teams across Carvana to identify stories worth telling, find creative ways to bring them to life, and support high-profile and sensitive communications when needed.
At Carvana, we are industry leaders who take big swings, set ambitious goals, and inspire each other to make values-based and data-driven decisions in everything we do. Our culture is special, camaraderie is strong, and every day, we let our passion and creativity foster innovation.
What you'll be doing
  • Identify and develop stories from across the business, working with employees, customers, and cross-functional partners to bring them to life through written, visual, and multimedia content.
  • Pitch timely, compelling stories to media outlets and build trusted relationships with journalists.
  • Become a subject matter expert on Carvana, the automotive industry, our markets, and the technology shaping the customer experience.
  • Respond to media inquiries and support communications during high-profile or sensitive situations with sound judgment and composure.
  • Develop compelling communications materials, including press releases, media alerts, proactive pitches, talking points, media briefings, and owned-media content.
  • Monitor news, industry developments, and emerging trends to identify opportunities for Carvana to contribute to relevant conversations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business results, data, and complex topics into clear, engaging stories.
  • Help maintain consistent, accurate, and on-brand messaging across communications channels.
  • Explore new formats and creative approaches for reaching audiences directly.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you should know/have
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, communications, or a related field required.
  • 3+ years of experience in public relations, communications, journalism, multimedia production, or another related storytelling role.
  • Strong news judgment and the ability to recognize and develop compelling stories.
  • Demonstrated experience pitching stories, working with journalists, or producing content for media audiences.
  • The judgment and composure to manage sensitive situations and perform well under pressure.
  • Comfort working in a high-visibility role and collaborating with senior leaders and partners across the business.
  • A proactive, curious mindset and a willingness to explore unconventional angles and new ways of telling Carvana's story.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment.
  • Experience using AI tools to support research, media monitoring, content development, and communications workflows, with strong editorial judgment and attention to accuracy.

Bonus points if you have
  • Experience working in journalism or a newsroom environment, with strong reporting instincts and an ability to find the story within complex information.
  • Multimedia production skills, including experience creating or supporting video, photography, audio, or other digital content.
  • Experience translating data, business results, or technical subjects into clear and engaging stories.
  • Experience with public company communications and the considerations involved in communicating financial or other sensitive information.
  • Familiarity with emerging media formats and new ways brands can reach audiences directly.

What we'll offer in return
  • Full-Time Salary Position with a competitive salary.
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits.
  • 401K with company match.
  • A multitude of perks including student loan payments, discounts on vehicles, benefits for your pets, and much more.
  • A great wellness program to keep you healthy and happy both physically and mentally.
  • Access to opportunities to expand your skillset and share your knowledge with others across the organization.

About Carvana

Sourced by ZipRecruiter

At Carvana, we sell cars, but we're not salespeople. Since 2013, we've been making it our mission to change the way people buy cars. We saw a huge problem with how much it can suck to buy a car the traditional way, so we committed ourselves to tackling one of the largest, yet-to-be-disrupted markets in the world - the $1T per year U.S. car market (yes, that's $Trillion with a "T").
