Overview
We're seeking a Platform Engineer with a blend of strong software engineering expertise and some data science acumen to join our team. This role requires someone who enjoys working on distributed microservice architectures, finding ways to improve the system's robustness, stability, and performance, and optimize areas such as geospatial data storage and query performance at scale.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, build, and maintain platform services in a microservices environment
• Develop and optimize event-driven architectures using message queuing systems
• Implement and maintain gRPC and HTTP API surfaces
• Design data processing pipelines and analytics infrastructure
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize system performance and reliability
• Containerize applications and manage container orchestration
Required Technical Skills
• Strong proficiency in Python and at least one other programming language
• Understanding of HTTP API and RPC patterns
• Experience with gRPC and protocol buffers
• Experience with PostgreSQL and DuckDB (configuration, usage, optimization)
• Understanding of event-driven architectures (configuration, pitfalls, scaling challenges)
• Knowledge of RabbitMQ or other message broker
• Understanding of microservices design patterns and distributed systems
• Some experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
Qualifications
• Strong software engineering fundamentals (design patterns, testing, version control)
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools
• AWS experience is a nice-to-have
• Understanding of data lake architectures and storage optimization patterns
• Understanding of security practices in distributed systems
• Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
