Job Description
Envisioneering is seeking an experienced Machinist to support defense related programs by programming, setting up, and operating CNC equipment to produce high precision prototype components. This is an excellent opportunity to be a part of a design team and assist with product design and development.
This role demands advanced CNC programming expertise, strong fabrication skills, and the ability to work closely within a small, interdisciplinary design and engineering team. The machinist provides critical feedback during product development, supports rapid prototyping cycles, and ensures manufacturability of designs intended for defense applications. A successful candidate demonstrates exceptional craftsmanship, attention to security and quality standards, and the ability to adapt quickly in a fast paced R&D environment.
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
  • Develop, edit, and optimize CNC programs for complex components using Solidworks.
  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot CNC mills, lathes, and multi-axis machining centers. Desired experience in Haas and Tormach 3-axis and 5-axis.
  • Fabricate precision prototype parts from engineering concepts, CAD models, and evolving design requirements.
  • Read and interpret detailed engineering drawings, GD&T, and defense-grade documentation standards.
  • Select appropriate tooling, fixturing, speeds, and feeds for both prototyping and low-rate initial production.
  • Perform first-article inspections, dimensional verification, and quality checks using standard metrology tools and CMM equipment.
  • Collaborate closely within a small design and development team to provide manufacturability input, evaluate design feasibility, and support iterative prototyping.
  • Contribute to product development cycles by machining test articles, prototypes, and experimental components.
  • Maintain accurate records, adhere to security and confidentiality requirements, and follow all defense industry quality protocols.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and ensure proper operation of machine tools and shop equipment.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts related to machining processes, tooling, and workflow.

Job Requirements
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift moderate weight (typically 25-50 lbs).
  • Comfortable working in a machine shop environment with noise, coolant, and industrial equipment.
  • Ability to follow all safety regulations and maintain a clean, organized workspace.
MINIMUM SKILLS/ QUALIFICATIONS:
  • DoD Secret Clearance that is active or was active within the 24 months prior to date of hire. Top Secret preferred.
  • Advanced CNC programming and parts fabrication.
  • Demonstrated expertise in CNC programming. Desired skill specifically with Autodesk FeaturesCAM.
  • Solidworks.
  • Strong background in prototype machining, R&D support, or defense/aerospace machining environments.
  • Ability to interpret complex technical drawings, GD&T, and evolving design requirements common in defense programs.
  • Skilled in precision measurement techniques and accurate use of inspection equipment.
  • Strong mechanical reasoning, problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Experience troubleshooting machining issues related to precision tolerances, exotic materials, and specialized tooling.

DESIRED SKILLS:
  • Proficiency operating other common machine shop equipment: manual lathes, drill press, band saws, surface grinders, bending/brake machines, and related tools.
  • Basic understanding of welding (MIG, TIG, or brazing) for prototyping and fixture fabrication.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM modeling, toolpath simulation, and small-scale fixture or jig design.
  • Experience with assembly of electromechanical systems.

SALARY RANGE: $70,000 - $110,000
