Program Manager 


Apogee Research brings cutting-edge research into practice for the DoD community. We blend agility with rigor to develop new technologies and transition them for operational use. Founded in 2012, Apogee Research brings together cross-discipline teams to solve difficult and often deemed impossible problems across a range of different technical domains. At Apogee Research we work hard, we get things done, and we do it together. 


We currently have openings for a Program Manager (full-time in person) located in our Arlington, VA office. The Program Manager will be responsible for the management aspects of research and development efforts supporting Principal Investigators (PIs), profit and loss Directors, and the executive management team. Our ideal candidate is experienced in bridging between customers and technical execution teams to deliver complex technical solutions on programs that could span from innovative DARPA research through to operational deployment and use. 


The position is based out of our Arlington, VA office (full-time in person), but will require travel. You must have an active (within the last two years) DoD Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.


Position Responsibilities:

  • Ensure contracts are properly funded, executed on schedule and on budget, and with technical efforts aligned with the contract scope
  • Submit accurate and professional contractual deliverables on time
  • Coordinate among technical, IT, security, executive management, finance, and accounting teams to ensure projects are executed on time and within budget
  • Plan and manage staff allocations for project success in a fluid research-based environment
  • Manage multiple programs concurrently and collaborate with other programs to share resources to maximize benefits for the customer and company
  • Manage unclassified and classified proposals and write programmatic sections of proposals
  • Day to day responsibilities include: project progress tracking, project finance and budget tracking, personnel assignment and labor hours tracking, deliverable review and submittal, schedule, and progress reporting


Experience Requirements:

  • BS or BA, with the ability to comprehend and digest highly technical subject matter
  • Experience as a program manager (on the industry performer side) for DoD contracts, including classified contracts
  • Proven record of meeting deadlines, delivering on all contract deliverables, and attention to detail
  • Experience in proposal management (unclassified and classified) and familiarity with proposal color reviews
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze cost and schedule to identify program risk
  • Experience producing action items, developing metrics, and developing/tracking risk mitigation plans
  • Demonstrable track record of successful customer, team, and company senior management interaction
  • Ability to multitask and set priorities in a deadline-oriented, highly matrixed environment across several projects and teams 
  • Comfort working on programs building weapon systems in support of national security


Strongly Preferred 

  • Experience with a variety of contract vehicle types (CPFF, FFP, T&M, etc.)
  • Experience working with PIs and customers to ensure that research efforts prioritize development and demonstration of key enabling technologies
  • Experience on programs developing, fielding, or operationally using hardware or software capabilities
  • MA or MS in engineering, management, or relevant field
  • At least 5-8 years of experience working with Air Force and Navy customers
  • An active Project Management Institute (PMI) Project Management Professional (PMP)
