About this Position

We are seeking an adaptable and innovative tax director to lead the expansion of our private equity investment strategy beyond the investments held by our traditional vehicles such as mutual funds. This position will support the launch and ongoing maintenance of a typical private equity fund and upper tier structure to expand our distribution to sophisticated institutional and high net-worth investors.

You will lead the tax function with respect to our private equity business, work closely with the CFO to build and maintain the support structure for the new distribution channel, and provide a tax perspective on deal structure and documentation. You will develop strong relationships with key investment and operational personnel and support our business as a tax resource in client meetings. We utilize a tax service provider for compliance and consulting, and you will own all aspects of the oversight of the external tax service provider.

Role Summary

Works with senior management roles to ensure that the appropriate private equity tax strategy, policies, methods, standards, processes, reporting, and training are developed, applied, and understood. Maintains extensive knowledge of tax processes and in-depth knowledge of tax support requirements. Oversees external tax service provider and directs their work.

Responsibilities

  • Influences the establishment of an organizational tax strategy that alleviates or reduces tax burden while minimizing regulatory and audit risk. Leverages extensive private equity tax knowledge and experience to establish a strategic path for the achievement of business objectives.
  • Oversees the external tax service provider's preparation of various tax returns.
  • Performs complex research, analysis, and interpretation of the tax law, regulations, and cases to provide senior management with recommendations and opinions by applying tax concepts.
  • Oversees, mentors, and trains junior tax staff on private equity tax law, reporting, accounting, and compliance matters.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree AND
  • 10+ years of total relevant work experience

Preferred:

  • Expertise in private equity tax research, planning, and compliance
  • Experience interacting with sophisticated investors and their tax consultants
  • Advanced degree such as Masters of Tax, JD or LLM
  • CPA, CFA or licensed attorney

FINRA Requirements

FINRA licenses are not required and will not be supported for this role.

Work Flexibility

This role is eligible for hybrid work, with up to two days per week from home.
