The Student Involvement & Leadership Specialist supports the mission of the Office of Student Engagement & Leadership (SEL) at Pikes Peak State College (PPSC) by promoting student leadership development and meaningful campus involvement. Reporting to the Director of Student Engagement & Leadership, this position plays a key role in advancing SEL’s core areas, including civic engagement, student organization development, intersectional leadership education, and campus-wide event coordination. The Specialist oversees the annual student club recognition process, providing comprehensive officer and advisor training, coordinating relevant policies and procedures, and guiding the development and growth of student organizations. This role also includes planning and executing recruitment events, supporting club functions, facilitating access to funding, and advising on fundraising strategies. In addition, the Specialist provides support for the Student Government Association and their advisor, and supervises student staff and ensures they are equipped to support a vibrant, inclusive campus life experience. Operating with a strong equity lens, this role prioritizes diversity, inclusion, and student empowerment, ensuring all students have access to meaningful engagement and leadership opportunities. The Specialist must be a dynamic, responsive, and caring leader capable of balancing multiple priorities, adapting to changing needs, and working independently while supporting student autonomy and decision-making.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Completed bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution OR completed associate degree with two years of professional level experience performing similar duties to those described for this position OR four years of professional level experience performing similar duties to those described for this position.
• Demonstrated experience working effectively in a diverse environment; must demonstrate cultural sensitivity.
• Experience with computer and software applications relating to office management, including word processing, spreadsheets, and email.
Professional level experience is defined by the Colorado Division of Human Resources: A position that involves the exercise of discretion, analytical skill, judgment, personal accountability, and responsibility for creating, developing, integrating, applying, or sharing an organized body of knowledge. Colorado revised statute (C.R.S. 24-50-135(1) allows colleges to exempt positions from the State Personnel Classified System that are determined to be professional level work.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in Education, Higher Education Leadership, Sociology, Multicultural Studies, Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, or closely related field.
• Supervisory experience
• Demonstrated experience in program development, analysis, data collection, and assessment.
• Experience in student leadership development, student organization support, or civic engagement initiatives.
• Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication and professional speaking skills.
• Workshop facilitation, public speaking, and training experience for diverse audiences.
• Spanish language ability to read, write, and speak fluently.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Student Organization, Leadership Development, and Civic Engagement
• Manage the annual recognition process for student organizations and lead training programs for officers and advisors.
• Serve as a liaison between clubs and organization membership and advisors.
• Advise students on the recognition process, organizational development, program planning, campus resources, and relevant policies, procedures, and guidelines ensuring that they remain in compliance.
• Design and facilitate leadership training for student officers and advisors, enhancing skills in teamwork, organization, and advocacy.
• Hosts semesterly advisor trainings to maintain positive relationships with faculty/staff advisors from across the college; this also promotes retention of club advisors and increases collaboration in small- and large-scale events across PPSC.
• Manage a Clubs & Orgs newsletter for advisors & club leadership with any changes or updates on policies/procedures.
• Coordinate and host at least 2 major student events, such as, recruitment events, club functions, leadership retreats, service projects, fundraising initiatives, and recognition ceremonies.
• Lead out the planning of clubs and organizations' involvement fairs once a semester.
• Lead civic engagement initiatives that promote student involvement in community service and democratic participation.
• Assist with key civic engagement programs, including a nationally recognized nonpartisan student voting initiative in collaboration with the Director of Student Engagement & Leadership.

• Serve as the staff liaison to collaborative partners that can provide key and critical support to PPSC’s student clubs and organizations.
• Serve as the liaison to designated community organizations that can provide key and critical support to PPSC’s students.
• Connect PPSC students to the peer-to-peer support programs that may be available.
• Partner with college departments and resources to promote student success through academic support services.
• Coordinate PPSC faculty and staff training programs for student development in conjunction with the Director.
• Collaborate with campus partners to develop leadership training focused on career readiness, workforce transition, transferable skills, and soft skills.
Supervision & Management
• Hire and supervise student assistants, including the development of training, delegation of projects, 1:1 coaching, and assessment of performance.
• Evaluate the job performance of student staff, providing direction and assistance for improvement and professional growth.
• Train student staff to support and advise registered clubs & organizations on their activities and provide guidance on day-to-day responsibilities, including, but not limited to annual recognition, new club creation, activity plans, space reservations, etc.
• Manage hourly employees’ schedules including monitoring and tracking hours, coverage, and the Timesheet System.
• Cultivate and supervise student staff in the development and implementation of programs and operations, including social media, outreach, community-building, and educational events.
• Supervise and mentor student assistants, fostering leadership growth and professional development.
• Positively and proactively contributing to the educational and professional development of student leaders over clubs & organizations.
• Assist with supporting the Student Government Association when needed.
Operation & Administration
• Develop internal and external communication materials for events and outreach.
• Work with the SEL Marketing team to design marketing materials and promotional graphics for programs, trainings, leadership and civic engagement opportunities.
• Updating and maintaining all relevant documents, resources, recognized clubs & Organization database, trainings, presentations, website, and other relevant virtual/digital spaces to engage registered club & organization officers and their advisors.
• Assist with assessment efforts of the office and within the department, including basic tracking of activities, program evaluation, and measurement of learning outcomes.
• Incorporate assessment data and best practices for learning outcomes, outcome measures, and evaluation procedures.
• Collect attendance, trainings/workshops, and other data as requested by the director; perform assessment and analysis of data to provide recommendations for programming; provide to the Director and other department leaders.
• Monitor activity for clubs and organizations' organizational codes, programming budgets, and spending for the programming initiatives.
• Manage club funding allocations, ensuring equitable access to resources for all student organizations.
• Manages funding requests throughout the academic year from all clubs and organizations; and subsequently, is responsible for working with the Vice President of the Student Government Association in allocating funding to clubs and organizations at PPSC.
• Work with Marketing for printed and web-based educational materials for students, faculty, and staff. • Assists the Director in creating and hosting leadership development training for SGA student leaders.
• Monitor activity and student fee budgets and spending for the programming initiatives. • Assist with writing annual reports and strategic planning.
• Facilitate communication with Facilities Management for maintenance and repairs and ITSS for technical issues.
• General filing, data entry, record keeping, word processing, managing inventory, ordering supplies and food.
• Prepare purchasing card reconciliation, purchase requisitions, payroll action requests, budget transfers, transaction reports, and interdepartmental billings.
• Arrange travel plans including airfare, hotel, car rental reservations, ground transportation arrangements, and conference registrations.
• Other duties as assigned.
