Job description

FULL-TIME TENURE TRACK FACULTY - CHEMISTRY 
PHYSICAL SCIENCE DEPARTMENT

MALCOLM X COLLEGE 

Malcolm X College is currently seeking a Full-Time Tenure Track Faculty to teach Chemistry. If you have passion for teaching and learning and are committed to the mission of the community college, consider joining our team. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in the classroom by developing and using effective teaching strategies that meet students' diverse needs and engage the student in critical thinking and problem-solving.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrate excellence in teaching; integrate technology to enhance student learning and engagement; inspire, motivate, and empower students.
  • Develop and design courses by utilizing student-learning outcomes to guide course instruction.
  • Incorporate strategies to improve student engagement and student retention.
  • Compile, administer, and grade examinations; record and submit grades electronically using the college's database.
  • Hold office hours for student conferences and other instructional support needs like mentoring and advising.
  • Complete all mandatory midterm/final grading and active pursuit certifications required by the college.
  • Navigate and make use of a Learning Management System (LMS) to support classroom instruction.
  • Administer programmatic evaluations.
  • Attend departmental/college-wide meetings; and participate in various department and or college-wide activities or committees.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • M.S. in Chemistry - OR - Master's degree and 18 graduate semester hours in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related disciplines.  
  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or relevant field preferred
  • Knowledge of Bright space learning management system
  • Experience with a diverse, student population is desired, as is a commitment to the open access mission of the community college.

IDEAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Organic Chemistry, Survey of Organic and Biochemistry, General Chemistry, and Introductory chemistry
  • Strong knowledge of assessment and the role it plays in the teaching and learning environment.
  • Time Management and Task Management Skills
  • Collaborative, Team, and Goal-Oriented
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office

Salary range: $58,000 - $65,000

Offered salary will be determined by the respective collective bargaining agreement and applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities.
