The Hampton University Department of Pharmacy Practice invites applications for a highly motivated individual to serve as the Psychiatry Pharmacist Specialist as part of the proposed Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program for a twelve-month, full-time, non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher.
Description of the School:
Founded in 1868, Hampton University is a leading historically black university (HBCU) located on the Virginia Peninsula in the City of Hampton. It is a privately endowed, co-educational, nonsectarian institution. It is located on the east coast of Virginia in the picturesque Hampton Roads area that includes the cities of Hampton, Norfolk, Williamsburg, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, and Newport News.
Hampton University School of Pharmacy (HUSOP) was granted Pre-Candidate Status for the Doctor of Pharmacy program by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) Board of Directors in January 2024. More information is available on the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) website www.acpe-accredit.org . The school has successfully matriculated its first PharmD cohort in the Fall of 2024. HUSOP is currently seeking Candidate Status from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) for its Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program. An onsite review of the school is scheduled for April 2025. The School currently offers the Bachelors of Science in Pharmaceutical Science degree, along with minors in Pharmaceutical Science, Environmental Health Science, and Public Health.

Applicants should have a Pharm.D. degree from an accredited college of pharmacy; postgraduate training and clinical experience in psychiatry with didactic and experiential teaching history.
Candidates must be licensed or eligible for licensure in Virginia and demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills, clinical skills and teaching skills. equity and inclusion.
Essential Responsibilities of the Position:
Teaching
  • Establish a clinical pharmacy practice for experiential training of 4 th Year PharmD students for the Psychiatry APPE.
  • Coordinate courses in the PharmD curriculum.
  • Provide instruction in other pharmacy courses as assigned, including the use of Canvas and ExamSoft to deliver instructional materials.

Scholarly activities
  • Develop and deliver innovative educational curriculum related to psychiatry pharmacy.
  • Enhance instructional materials for use within courses.
  • Publish a minimum of one peer-reviewed article, or comparable activity, per year.

Service
  • Serve on College/University/Professional committees.
  • Contribute to the University's commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Comply with all the duties and responsibilities associated with being a Hampton University faculty member.

Qualifications:
Candidates applying for this position will be considered based on the following qualifications.
Basic Qualifications
  • A graduate of an ACPE-accredited pharmacy program with a Pharm.D. degree.
  • Licensed, within 90 days of hire, to practice pharmacy by the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Completion of a PGY-2 Psychiatry residency or a minimum of TWO years' experience in working in a Behavior Health Center and Board Certified Psychiatric Pharmacist (BCPP).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of a PGY-2 Psychiatry residency.
  • Minimum two years' experience in Behavior Health Unit.
  • Board Certified Psychiatric Pharmacist (BCPP).
  • Didactic and Experiential Education teaching experience.
