How much do full time particle physics jobs pay per year?
What is the difference between Full Time Particle Physics vs Full Time Nuclear Physics?
| Aspect | Full Time Particle Physics | Full Time Nuclear Physics |
|---|---|---|
| Required Credentials | Physics degree, PhD often preferred, research experience | Physics or nuclear engineering degree, specialized nuclear certifications |
| Work Environment | Research labs, universities, large particle accelerators | Nuclear facilities, research labs, government agencies |
| Industry Usage | Fundamental research, academia, government labs | Nuclear energy, medical imaging, defense |
Full Time Particle Physics and Full Time Nuclear Physics share similar educational backgrounds and research environments. However, particle physics focuses on understanding fundamental particles and forces, often involving large-scale accelerators, while nuclear physics centers on atomic nuclei, nuclear reactions, and applications like energy and medicine. Both careers require advanced degrees and research experience, but their specific industry applications differ.

Job description
The postdoc will work in the group of Prof. Karthik Ramanathan, primarily on the development of novel superconducting detectors for particle physics applications. These include qubit-based detectors (QPDs/SQUATs) and Kinetic Inductance Detectors (KIDs). The project scope is expected to run the gamut from design to on-site nano-fabrication to device testing in the group's dilution refrigerator, along with analyzing collected data. There is scope for the postdoc to define their own additional sub-projects - e.g., developing new sub-eV energy calibration techniques - and also interface with a larger experimental collaboration.Job Description
