Job description


The Ammunition Handler will work as part of a day or night shift to support ammunition operations for the 434th Field Artillery (FA) Brigade. This position is responsible for ensuring the safe, secure, and efficient receipt, storage, transportation, issue, and accountability of ammunition in support of training operations at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
As required by our governmental client, this position requires an active SECRET clearance to be considered.
A government contract requires that this position be restricted to U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents. You must provide documentation that you are a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident to qualify.

Ammo Handler Responsibilities Include:
The Ammunition Handler performs ammunition operations at the Ammunition Supply Point (ASP), Ammunition Holding Area (AHA), Building 6004 Ammunition Platoon Office, and designated field training areas. Duties include receiving, loading and unloading, transporting, storing, accounting for, and turning in ammunition in accordance with ATP 4-35.1, Techniques for Munitions Handlers, and the 434th FA Brigade Administrative and Operations Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). The incumbent is also responsible for breaking down and inspecting all ammunition prior to delivery to training ranges to ensure compliance with applicable safety and operational requirements.
The position requires the operation of various military vehicles to transport ammunition, supplies, materials, and equipment. This includes vehicles with a gross vehicle weight ranging from 10,000 to 26,000 pounds, such as 5-ton trucks, Medium Tactical Vehicles (MTVs), and High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWVs). The Ammunition Handler conducts Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS) and performs limited emergency repairs, including changing tires and replacing fuses, to maintain vehicle readiness. Following field training operations, the incumbent cleans assigned vehicles and equipment using designated wash racks and pressure-washing facilities.
Additional responsibilities include:
  • Maintaining a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) endorsement.
  • Performing all assigned duties in compliance with applicable safety regulations, technical guidance, and unit standard operating procedures.

Ammo Handler Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working in ammunition handling.
  • Possess a current and up to date Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with HAZMAT endorsement and meet all licensing requirements outlined in DOD 4500.9-R, Defense Transportation Regulation, Chapter 204, Section B, paragraph 3b.
  • Completed, or able to complete Support Cadre Training Course (SCTC) or Support Cadre Training Course (SCTC)
  • Knowledgeable of AR 600-55, The Army Driver and Operator Standardization Program (Selection, Training, Testing, and Licensing); USAFACFS Supplement 58-1, Management, Acquisition, and use of Motor Vehicles.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Must have the ability to lift 80 pounds or more to meet mission requirements (anything requiring to be lifted in excess of 80 pounds two individuals shall lift). Motor vehicle operator work assignments involve light physical effort in reaching, bending, stooping, climbing, and turning or moving arms and legs to operate hand and foot controls. Moderate physical effort is required to lift and move cargo, supplies, and materials. Greater physical effort is required in maneuvering vehicles due to their size and weight. Considerable physical effort may be required to perform limited emergency repairs such as changing tires, fuse replacements, etc.
  • Able to wear Kevlar when driving tactical vehicles (Army Issued 1 ¼ Ton Trucks and above) at all times.
  • Licensed to operate the military vehicles within 90 days of hire (Government vans, stake bed trucks, HMMWVs and FMTVs).
  • Mut pass pre-employment requirements of Cherokee Federal.
