Job description

Description

Position Summary

The Order Picker is responsible for accurately and efficiently pulling merchandise from warehouse shelving to fulfill wholesale and retail orders. This role requires close attention to detail to verify item description, item number, size, color, quantity, and quality against order specifications, along with packing completed orders for shipment. Speed and accuracy are equally critical to this position, as picking errors directly affect customer satisfaction and order fulfillment timelines.

Key Responsibilities

Pull items from warehouse shelving locations based on pick lists, verifying item description, item number, size, color, and quantity against order requirements.

Inspect items for quality and condition, setting aside damaged or defective product per warehouse protocol rather than including it in an order.

Pick orders at a pace that meets productivity standards while maintaining a high level of accuracy.

Pack completed orders as required, including bagging, boxing, palletizing, and shrink wrapping, to ensure product arrives to the customer securely and in salable condition.

Follow the problem item protocol when an item cannot be located or a discrepancy is found (check the computer system, notify the appropriate lead, apply the 5-minute rule, and move on to the next pick) to avoid delays to the overall batch.

Communicate shortages, damaged product, or location discrepancies to a lead or supervisor promptly.

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe area.

Support shipping deadlines by prioritizing orders as directed by the Order Fulfillment Supervisor.

Perform other warehouse duties as assigned, including assisting with stocking or receiving during peak periods.

Requirements

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Prior warehouse, order fulfillment, or retail stocking experience preferred but not required; training provided.

Strong attention to detail with the ability to cross-reference multiple data points (description, item number, size, color, quantity) quickly and accurately.

Basic math skills for counting and verifying quantities.

Ability to read and follow written pick lists and verbal instructions.

Comfortable using handheld scanners (RF guns) and basic warehouse software systems.

Reliable attendance and punctuality.

Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods throughout a shift.

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly, and occasionally lift heavier items with team assistance or equipment.

Ability to climb ladders or use step stools to access shelving at various heights.

Ability to operate a pallet jack; forklift certification a plus (training available).

Comfortable working in a warehouse environment with variable temperatures.
