Who are we? An Introduction
The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony (RSIC) is a federally recognized tribal government dedicated to the economic and social advancement of its people. Established in the early 1900s and formally recognized under the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934, the RSIC represents over 1,100 members of the Paiute, Shoshone, and Washoe Tribes-Three Tribes, One Nation. Our lands include the original 28-acre Colony in central west Reno and a 1,920-acre community in Hungry Valley, located 19 miles north of the Colony in the scenic Eagle Canyon region of Nevada. What's your day like?
As a Full-Time Dental Assistant at the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, you will play a crucial role in our dental office, working under the supervision of our skilled dentists. This dynamic position encompasses a variety of tasks, including patient care, administrative duties, and laboratory functions. You will be responsible for welcoming patients, preparing them for treatment, and providing essential support during procedures by managing instruments and recording vital information.
Your diverse skill set-ranging from clerical tasks to patient education-will help enhance patient experiences while maintaining a clean and safe work environment. You'll also engage in essential functions such as maintaining dental equipment, managing supplies, and documenting services in patient records. This flexible role not only allows you to exhibit your clinical expertise but also fosters interpersonal connections, making every day varied and rewarding as you contribute to the health and well-being of our community.

To excel as a Full-Time Dental Assistant with the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, several essential skills and qualifications are necessary. Candidates must be graduates from a fully accredited Dental Assisting program or possess a minimum of five years of relevant experience with at least 6,000 hours of chairside assistance. Certification in Dental Radiology is required, along with a current CPR/BLS certification prior to hire. Computer literacy is crucial, as you will need to adapt to new software as needed. A self-motivated attitude and strong interpersonal skills will enable you to collaborate effectively within a team-oriented environment, especially in shared workspaces.
Being comfortable in a diverse minority setting is important, and applicants must also provide evidence of a recent negative TB test or appropriate documentation from a physician confirming freedom from TB. These qualifications ensure you can provide top-tier patient care and contribute positively to our mission.
Knowledge and skills required for the position are:
  • Must be a graduate from a fully accredited Dental Assisting program at time of hire or have at least 5 years of prior experience working as a dental assistant (with a minimum of 6000 hours chairside).
  • Must be certified in Dental Radiology through graduation from an accredited Dental Assisting program or through "on-the-job" training within the last year at the time of hire
  • Must have a current CPR/BLS certificate prior to date of hire
  • Must be computer literate and be willing to be trained on new software as needed
  • Must be a self-motivated individual and have good interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to work in a "Team" environment in limited space with shared work areas.
  • Must be able to work in a diverse minority environment
  • Must provide evidence of a recent Infectious Pulmonary Tuberculosis (TB) test showing ONE of the following: 1) a negative Mantoux skin test 2) a negative chest x-ray or 3) a statement from a physician confirming freedom from TB.
