Established in the early 1900s and formally recognized under the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934, the RSIC represents over 1,100 members of the Paiute, Shoshone, and Washoe Tribes—Three Tribes, One Nation. Our lands include the original 28-acre Colony in central west Reno and a 1,920-acre community in Hungry Valley, located 19 miles north of the Colony in the scenic Eagle Canyon region of Nevada. Your role will involve utilizing carpentry, mechanical, and painting skills to perform various duties such as constructing concrete forms and fencing, maintaining drainage systems, and operating a variety of job-related equipment, from light trucks to heavy machinery like excavators and graders. You'll also be involved in landscape construction, sprinkler systems, and grounds maintenance.Essential tasks will include basic mechanical repairs on pumps and motors, electrical system maintenance including air conditioning, and assisting in carpentry projects like framing and flooring installations. Your expertise will contribute to the overall safety and aesthetic of our community, making this an exciting opportunity to make a tangible impact in a traditional, customer-focused environment.Requirements for this Maintenance Worker II jobTo succeed as a Full-Time Maintenance Worker II with the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, candidates must possess a diverse skill set and meet specific qualifications. A high school diploma or GED is required, along with a valid Nevada Driver License to ensure eligibility for the RSIC Vehicle Insurance Program. Candidates should have a strong physical capacity, able to engage in consistent and extended work involving bending, lifting, and other demanding activities across various environmental conditions. Effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written, are crucial for coordinating with team members and addressing community needs. A minimum of four years of experience in maintenance or construction work, or a related combination of education and experience, is necessary.Additionally, the ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certification within the first year of employment will enhance your capability to contribute to a safe and supportive environment within our community.Knowledge and skills required for the position are: A high school diploma or GED certificate at time of hire.A valid Nevada Driver License and eligibility for the RSIC Vehicle Insurance Program.ability to perform consistent and extended physical work including bending, stooping, lifting, pulling and other activities in a variety of environmental conditions.ability to successfully communicate in English both verbally and in writing;at least four (4) years of prior experience performing basic maintenance and construction work or a combination of equivalent education and experienceability to obtain a First Aid and CPR certification within one (1) year of employment.Join our team today!So, what do you think?
