Job description

Job Description

A pipefitter first class is responsible for removing, repairing, targeting, laying out, fabricating, installing, and testing marine piping systems such as Auxiliary Salt Water, Fire Main, Potable Water, Hydraulic, Compressed Air, Fuel Oil, Lube Oil, Engine Exhaust etc. in accordance with work item specifications, NAVSEA/Military standards and drawings or other regulatory body standards such as ABS, Military Sealift Command, etc. Repair and fabrication include the use of various shop equipment such as table saws, pipe threading machines, bending machines (power as well as hand operated), drill presses and brazing equipment.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Read and interpret blueprints and install all piping systems aboard ship.
  • Perform shop prefab on piping systems using blueprints.
  • Knows and understands tag out procedures for piping systems.
  • Be able to sil-braze.
  • Knowledgeable on pipe bending and able to bend piping manually or by machine.
  • Knowledge of P-1 and Level 1 piping systems.
  • Ability to hydrostatic test piping systems.
  • Ability to fit and install mechanically attached fittings.
  • Ability to thread piping and to tap holes to proper sizes.
  • Ability to prep piping for welding using grinders or beveling machines and know/understand different types of bevels.
  • Fit/install backing rings, E.B. rings.
  • Install pipe hangers/supports IAW applicable hanger drawings.
  • Knowledge of various types of pipe and fitting materials.
  • Knowledge of MIL-STD777.
  • Knowledge of valve types and properly packing of valves.
  • Ability to properly fit flanged joints.
  • Ability to set up and perform hot water flushing on sil-braze piping systems.
  • Knowledge of bolting requirements.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working as a Pipe Fitter in a shipyard environment, on Navy vessels.
  • Must be DBIDs eligible
  • US Citizen

Job Types: Contract, Full-time

Pay: $28.00 - $31.00per hour
