This position is located on an offshore oil platform in federal waters off the coast of Southern California. The Roustabout is an essential member of the Drilling Team and is responsible for supporting crane operations, material handling, equipment movement, general labor activities, and housekeeping functions necessary for safe and efficient offshore operations. This position works closely with drilling and platform personnel and may be required to assist in multiple operational areas as business needs dictate.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist with crane operations, including rigging, preventive maintenance, loading, and unloading equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Move, stage, secure, and transport equipment and materials in support of drilling and platform operations.
  • Maintain drilling areas, walkways, decks, and work zones in a clean, orderly, and safe condition.
  • Perform general labor duties, including sweeping, washing, painting, pressure washing, scraping, and equipment cleanup.
  • Support equipment preparation, maintenance, and handling for transport to and from the platform.
  • Assist with the safe movement of personnel, materials, tools, and supplies on and off the platform.
  • Safely utilize hand tools, power tools, lifting devices, and material-handling equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with the Drilling Team and other departments to ensure efficient and effective operations.
  • Participate in safety meetings, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), emergency response drills, and training activities.
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions, equipment deficiencies, environmental concerns, and near-miss incidents.
  • Follow all Company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Comply with all applicable federal, state, local, and offshore regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in cross-training and develop proficiency in additional drilling support and platform operations roles.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Basic understanding of mechanical equipment and industrial operations.
  • Ability to safely operate or learn to operate cranes, rigging equipment, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment.

  • Regularly lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance and heavier loads with assistance or mechanical lifting devices.
  • Perform work at elevated heights and over water.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment, including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, respiratory protection, flotation devices, and fall-protection equipment.
  • Possess adequate vision, hearing, and dexterity to safely perform essential job duties and respond to emergency situations.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions and offshore environmental conditions for extended periods.

Working Conditions
  • Offshore oil and gas production platform located in federal waters.
  • Rotational work schedule of 14 days on/14 days off.
  • Twelve-hour shifts are typical; extended schedules may be required to support operational needs, weather events, maintenance activities, or emergency response situations.
  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical equipment, industrial noise, vibration, chemicals, hydrocarbons, and varying weather conditions.
  • Work may be performed in confined spaces, at elevations, and in proximity to open water.
  • Position is designated as safety-sensitive and subject to all applicable Company drug and alcohol testing requirements.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations accurately.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Outlook, email, and internet applications.
  • Ability to successfully complete required offshore safety training.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment and ongoing physical examinations, drug testing, and other regulatory or Company-required screenings.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior offshore oil and gas, industrial, construction, or heavy labor experience.
  • Experience with crane rigging, material handling, or mechanical maintenance activities.
  • Knowledge of offshore safety practices and emergency response procedures.
