Job description

Planate Management Group (PMG) is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, and Orlando, Florida USA with a technical support center in South East Asia and East Africa, that provides program management and facilities engineering services worldwide. Planate is a small business provider of planning, design, infrastructure management, technical consulting, engineering, and construction management services in support of the US Department of Defense (DOD) and its Service (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps) missions, along with other US federal agencies, all over the world.

As a Site Safety Health Officer/Industrial Hygienist, you will serve as the subject matter expert for occupational and environmental health at the VA Western Colorado Health Care System. Reporting to the Safety and Occupational Health Manager, you will identify, evaluate, and control workplace hazards to protect the health and safety of employees and patients across a multi-facility healthcare system that includes hospitals, outreach centers, and mobile units.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Industrial Hygienist for VAWCHCS, supporting system-wide safety and occupational health operations
  • Identify, evaluate, and control chemical, biological, physical, and radiological hazards in healthcare, laboratory, industrial, construction, and outdoor environments
  • Conduct inspections, exposure monitoring, surveys, and studies related to asbestos, hazardous drugs, ethylene oxide, formaldehyde, mercury, nitrous oxide, hazardous and infectious waste, water quality, and respirator programs
  • Perform industrial hygiene sampling, analyze data, interpret results, and develop recommendations to mitigate occupational health risks
  • Evaluate compliance with OSHA, NIOSH, EPA, NFPA, ANSI, NRC, ACGIH, Joint Commission, and VA directives and regulations
  • Develop and recommend effective control measures, work practice changes, and exposure mitigation strategies
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports, exposure documentation, and hazardous waste records in accordance with regulatory and VA requirements
  • Provide expert consultation, training, and guidance to leadership, managers, and staff on industrial hygiene and occupational health practices
  • Support environmental stewardship initiatives, including pollution prevention, waste minimization, and resource conservation
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications to be successful in the role:

  • Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health Sciences, or a related field of study
  • Professional knowledge of industrial hygiene principles, practices, standards, sampling techniques, instrumentation, and control measures
  • Experience conducting industrial hygiene surveys and exposure assessments in complex environments such as healthcare facilities, laboratories, industrial shops, and construction areas
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, NIOSH, EPA, ACGIH, NFPA, NRC, DOT, and VA regulations and standards
  • Ability to independently plan, manage, and execute an industrial hygiene program with minimal technical supervision
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret exposure data and assess health risks
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare detailed technical reports and provide consultative guidance
  • Ability to perform physical inspections involving walking, standing, bending, crawling, confined space entry, and moderate lifting
  • Ability to wear respiratory protection (clean-shaven as required by OSHA) and work in hazardous environments
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle.
