Job description

Position Title:

Network Administrator

Position Summary and Qualifications:

The Network Administrator implements and maintains network infrastructure; administers daily operations of network resources; troubleshoots and resolves student and staff networking issues; serves as a Network Engineering liaison to internal and external service providers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Installs and performs ongoing maintenance on networking infrastructure. This includes: routers, switches, wireless networking solutions, firewalls, power and environmental devices and network cabling.

  • Diagnoses, troubleshoots and resolves performance, connectivity and related network problems.

  • Serve as liaison for network cabling requests and manage all network activations.

  • Monitor traffic between networks and create new VLANs, VRFs and firewall policies when necessary.

  • Assists in administrative duties such as managing network cabling documentation, network reporting and IP address management.

  • Determines technical requirements and acts as a Network Engineering liaison to University internal and external services to deploy network-based devices and services.

  • Manages network cable and hardware inventory.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Researches and evaluates technical and financial feasibility of network products for possible acquisition and deployment.

  • Maintains job-related skills through formal training, individual study and research.

  • Serve as a technical resource to student staff.

  • Assist the Information Security team in day-to-day operations of network security tools such as firewalls and VPN solutions.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required

  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field and at least three years of network administration experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; interpersonal relationship and collaboration skills are required.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of L2 switches and IEEE 802.1ad and 802.1q network standards.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of data communications cabling.

  • Basic troubleshooting skills for cabling/jacks and end user devices.

  • Basic knowledge of AC, DC power, UPS and power management.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented, inclusive and diverse environment

  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.

  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of Power-over-Ethernet standards (802.3af, 802.3at, 802.3bt), requirements, and limitations.

  • Knowledge of routing protocols, such as SPBM, IS-IS, BGP, OSPF, VXLAN/EVPN.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of RF parameters, 802.11 network standards

  • Knowledge of data communications wiring (CAT 6/6A, Fiber) and terminations.

  • Experience using hand tools and network testing equipment.

  • Familiarity-with/programming-of load balancers, SIEM environment including firewalls, IPAM and HEOA compliance services a plus.

  • Prior experience working with Extreme, Ruckus, Aruba, or Fortinet preferred

  • Knowledge of IPv4 and IPv6.

Physical Requirements and/or Work Hours:

  • Eligible to work from home 1 to 2 days per week with supervisor approval. This role directly supports on campus equipment and users with a primary work location of Hawk Hill (Philadelphia) and occasional travel to University City campus (Philadelphia) and Lancaster PA campus.

  • Walking is required, along with standing, sitting, kneeling, lifting, crawling, and working in confined spaces.

  • Ability to lift up to 30lbs and transport equipment on a hand truck.

  • Position requires on-call responsibility

  • Periodically scheduled upgrades or unplanned outages will necessitate late night or early morning attendance/availability.

  • Perform job functions in various environments, including but not limited to,, dark basements and crawl spaces, noisy mechanical rooms and construction sites.

  • Ability to travel between campuses

Pay Transparancy
