Job description

Reports To: Senior Pastor
Position Type: Full-Time
Salary: 40,000 - 45,000 (can be marginally negotiated for right candidate)
Role Purpose The Worship Leader / Choir Director serves as a key facilitator of our ministry, fostering an atmosphere of spiritual engagement. This role is not just about musical execution; it is about shepherding our people. We are looking for a dedicated leader who will help us cultivate our music ministry by connecting with our congregation, nurturing the gifts of our volunteers, and ensuring our worship services remain a vibrant, welcoming experience as we seek to be “A Family. Through Christ. Serving All.”
Primary Responsibilities

  • Worship Leadership: Facilitate the musical elements of the traditional and blended services, ensuring a seamless flow that invites the congregation into deep engagement.
  • Choir Direction: Direct weekly choir rehearsals and Sunday morning performances, providing musical instruction and spiritual encouragement to members. You will also be available for special services (Christmas Eve, Easter, funerals, celebrations) as requested.
  • Ministry Development: Support the growth of the music ministry by inviting congregants into service and mentoring existing volunteers. You will be expected to cultivate a welcoming environment that naturally attracts and retains volunteer participants.
  • Collaborative Planning: Work closely with the Senior Pastor and the Modern Worship Leader to ensure a cohesive vision across all worship experiences.
  • Musical Versatility: Curate a repertoire that honors our church’s diverse worship heritage. You will utilize existing arrangements and introduce new arrangements and resources to lead services that connect across generations.
Key Competencies

  • The Bridge-Builder: Ability to navigate and connect diverse groups of people, fostering a sense of our identity as a church, despite differing musical tastes.
  • Musical Proficiency: Strong vocal leadership, musical ability, and the capability to lead and coordinate choral and instrumental accompaniment.
  • Relational Focus: A natural "people person" who is approachable and comfortable encouraging others into ministry.
  • Administrative Diligence: Organized approach to planning rehearsals, selecting music in advance, and communicating clearly with staff and volunteers.
Qualifications

  • Experience in congregational worship or choral leadership preferred.
  • A teachable spirit, a heart for ministry, and a desire to grow as a leader are highly valued.
  • A heart for ministry that aligns with the mission of Grayson United Methodist Church. A leader that is humble, patient, not overbearing, and approachable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on teamwork and relational health.
Organizational Alignment This position sits within the Pastoral and Ministry Staff branch of our organization. You will work alongside our Modern Worship leader to ensure our musical offerings are holistic and healthy. You will report directly to Trenton Dockery, our Senior Pastor, for operational oversight and daily coordination.
