ABOUT THE POSITION

As a Process Development Engineer your focus is the meshing of product design into manufacturable processes.  You will be responsible to facilitate interaction between both product and process groups to minimize risk of failure of design and process. A strong focus on design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly. (DFA)

Responsibilities
  • Work with Design and Process Engs for DFM and DFA to:
    • Simplify designs
    • Reduce the number of components
    • Utilize best practices for assembly and joining
  • Lead DFMEA and PFMEA creation for new products to minimize risk
  • Create process flows for new products to meet TAKT time
  • Perform tolerance stacks for products and tools to insure manufacturability of designs
  • Create and manage Work Breakdown Structures to insure all aspects of the workstations area addressed
  • Create work instructions and Process travelers for new designs
  • Assist Quality in creating control plans to properly address risks in the design and the process that could not be engineered out.
  • Manage the technical aspects of the development process and communicate regularly with the Program manager over the project
  • Assist in the build of the product on the floor for Engineering Evaluations,  Design Validation Testing, and Qualification
  • Pull in resources from the process group for tool design, process development for bonding, welding, automation, etc to complete tasks denoted in the DFMEA, PFMEA, WBS.
  • Perform process capability studies on tools and processes
Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • U.S. Persons
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with understanding of dimensioning and tolerance analysis
  • Detail oriented with an analytical and structured approach to problem solving
  • Experienced and knowledgeable with automated assembly equipment
  • Solid Modeling 3D CAD design software experience (Solid Works preferred)
  • Proficient with Microsoft office software
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated

Preferences:

  • Hobbies involve making, fixing, building, fabricating mechanical things for example: Engines, cars, motorcycles, firearms,
  • Experience with machine shop tools: Mill, lathe, EDM
  • Experience with 3D printing
  • Experience with high precision presses, tooling and dies
  • Experience with welding/metal joining (laser, resistance, tig, etc.)
  • Robotics and process/assembly automation experience
  • Automated inspection experience (vision systems, etc.)
  • Experience with formal process validation methods such as IQ, OQ, PQ.
  • Project management experience
  • Lean methodologies
  • Tool design experience
