Job description

Middle School French/Spanish Teacher 

(1-year position)

Thayer Academy is seeking a full-time, salaried position to teach 6th-8th grade French, Spanish, and introduction to world languages for the 2026/27 school year, who will report  to the Middle School Director

What you’ll do:

  • Possible courses could include 6th-grade world language, 7th-grade French/Spanish, and French for students from Immersion Programs
  • Serve as an advisor for 7th or 8th grade 
  • Lead one afternoon program in the arts for one or more seasons, or coach an afternoon sport 
  • Apply practices in the classroom and other settings that foster equity, inclusion, and belonging among Thayer Academy community members
  • Engage in ongoing professional development

What we’re looking for: 

  • A bachelor’s degree is required, Master's (or higher) preferred in Education, French, Spanish, or a related field 
  • 3-5 years of teaching experience at the Middle School level preferred
  • Passion for working with middle schoolers  and a desire to build relationships
  • Commitment to working in and fostering an inclusive community
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion practices in the classroom, in curriculum, and in relationships with members of the school community
  • High level of comfort and experience with technology in an educational setting
  • Willingness to work on a team in a collaborative department
  • Ability to communicate and listen effectively with students and families

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Design Thinking or project-based learning curriculum development
  • Experience with Responsive Classrooms or other SEL curriculum and training
  • Experience with World Language teaching and/or tutoring
  • Willingness to incorporate metacognition into lessons
